Requirements
- Experience operating across multiple African countries, particularly the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with working knowledge of local labour law and hiring across several jurisdictions.
- Strong digital fluency, including the ability to use Excel, Word, SharePoint, Dynamics, and artificial intelligence to analyse data, manage information, and structure work efficiently.
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written French is a strong advantage.
- Willingness to travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and to work frequently in the field from day one.
Responsibilities
- Build a working knowledge of employment law in every market where site-based teams operate, with support from external advisors.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, maintain accurate statutory records, and proactively address labour-law gaps to reduce risk to the company and employees.
- Review and update contract templates, policies, and people processes to meet local labour law, and confirm compliance across markets on a regular cadence.
- Build and maintain market-specific compensation structures aligned with the company’s pay philosophies.
- Own compensation structures for site roles and recommend adjustments as local markets change.
- Design and administer benefits for site-based staff, including medical coverage and locally relevant protections.
- Manage benefits-vendor relationships in each market and resolve employee coverage issues.
- Support site leaders and country directors or managers in designing and implementing people operations that keep operations running smoothly while balancing employee well-being and employment-law compliance.
- Lead development of onboarding content and workflows customized for site needs.
- Support site leaders in onboarding new site hires, including safety induction and role-specific training.
- Manage offboarding to ensure departures are completed in line with local labour requirements, including final pay, documentation, and knowledge transfer.
- Act as a first point of contact for site-level employee issues and resolve grievances and day-to-day concerns.
- Own formal employee-relations cases, including investigations and disciplinary processes, through to resolution, with wider-team support as appropriate.
- Review and enhance existing systems and processes, incorporating lessons from sites such as Kamoa and QMM to improve operational efficiency and scalability.
- Support site leaders and teams in staying connected to company culture and values through channels and practices suited to deskless, shift-based teams.
- Adapt company policies and messaging for site contexts while preserving their intended protections.
- Support site leaders and the recruitment team in hiring locally recruited site roles, including sourcing, assessment, and offers, using criteria calibrated to predict success in the field.
- Travel frequently to support leaders and teams on the ground and ensure systems and processes are established and operating effectively.

- Strategic acumen to design people systems for a frontline, deskless workforce rather than adapt systems built for office workers.
- Ability to turn a blank page into a working framework and then operate it personally.
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written French.
