Fervo Energy has become the world's first enhanced geothermal company to deliver commercial electricity to the grid. The company announced that its Cape Station power plant began selling power on 30 September, one day ahead of schedule. The first block of the facility was completed in 23 months from groundbreaking to commercial operations. Once fully operational, Cape Station will generate 100 megawatts, with potential expansion to 4 gigawatts. Fervo aims to complete future blocks in 18 months. Google, Southern California Edison, and other companies have committed to purchasing power from the project. Unlike traditional geothermal plants, enhanced geothermal systems drill deeper to access hotter rock, enabling development in more locations. Fervo went public in May, raising $1.9 billion.
Fervo Energy Company (FRVO) faces investor scrutiny amid post-ipo transmission curtailment revelation - HBSS. SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 01, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - During Fervo Energy Company's (NASDAQ: FRVO) August 12, 2026 Q2 2026 earnings call, the company revealed that it expected a temporary shutdown of certain transmission infrastructure it relies on to deliver electricity from its Cape Station project. This news drove the price of Fervo shares down over 16% that day to close at $20.16, well below the company's $27 IPO price in May 2026. "We're focused on whether Fervo was aware of the planned curtailment at the time of its IPO and if so, whether the company and management may have negligently..." "if curtailment is required due to load system inefficiency, our ability to sell and deliver our power to our customers may be adversely impacted and we may..." "[t]his is really due to curtailment on the transmission lines that we have going from the Cape site to our end customers" "[t]his is something that we've had our eye on for some time." The report and market response have prompted national shareholders rights firm Hagens Berman to open an investigation into whether Fervo was sufficiently transparent about the curtailment in its IPO documents and, if not, whether there may be violations of the federal securities laws. The firm encourages Fervo investors who suffered substantial losses to submit your losses now. Persons with knowledge who may be able to assist the investigation are invited to contact the firm's attorneys. Fervo Energy Company (FRVO) Investigation: Fervo builds, owns, and operates geothermal power facilities in the United States. The company depends on third-party transmission systems to deliver its power. On May 14, 2026, Fervo completed its IPO and issued 80.5 million shares at $27 per share. The investigation is focused on the propriety of Fervo's statements about risks to its business related to third-party curtailments of transmission systems on which the company depends, particularly with respect to the company's Cape Station GeoCluster. More specifically, the company's IPO documents generally characterized this risk as "potential" and said "if curtailment is required due to load system inefficiency, our ability to sell and deliver our power to our customers may be adversely impacted and we may either incur additional costs or forego revenues." The propriety of these disclosures may have come into question on August 12, 2026. That day, Fervo reported its Q2 2026 financial results and held its related earnings conference call. The company surprised investors with 2027 revenue estimates of just $60 million to $80 million. Management revealed "[t]his is really due to curtailment on the transmission lines that we have going from the Cape site to our end customers" and "[t]his is something that we've had our eye on for some time." The market swiftly reacted, sending the price of Fervo shares down $4.01 (-16%) to close at $20.16, or over 25% lower than the IPO price. "We're focused on whether Fervo was aware of the planned curtailment at the time of its IPO and if so, whether the company and management may have negligently not disclosed it," said Reed Kathrein, the Hagens Berman partner leading the firm's investigation. If you invested in Fervo Energy and have substantial losses, or have knowledge that will assist the firm's investigation, submit your losses now" Whistleblowers: Persons with non-public information regarding Fervo Energy Company should consider their options to help in the investigation or take advantage of the SEC Whistleblower program. Fervo Energy's stock has hit its lowest valuation since trading began, currently at 74.38 times forward price-to-sales. The geothermal energy company maintains a substantial development pipeline of 48.6 gigawatts in early development and over 650,000 acres of land, with independently reviewed capacity potential exceeding 50 gigawatts. Despite having 1,054 megawatts of binding agreements worth approximately $11.9 billion in contracted revenue, Fervo generated only $174,000 in revenue during the first half of 2026. The company ended June 2026 with $2.1 billion cash following its IPO. Second-quarter capital expenditures reached $226.5 million, with another $850-900 million expected in the second half of 2026. Cape Station Phase II alone requires about $2.2 billion through 2028. Fervo currently carries a Zacks Rank of 4 (Sell), with analysts suggesting patience whilst the company proves its development scale can translate into durable revenues.
Fervo Energy has reached first power at Cape Station in Beaver County, Utah, marking a major milestone for enhanced geothermal systems (EGS). The utility-scale project's Phase I comprises three 33-megawatt GeoBlocks totalling approximately 100 megawatts, with the first unit expected to achieve commercial operations by 1 October 2026. The company is constructing an additional 400-megawatt phase expected online in 2028. Overall contracted capacity at Cape Station stands at approximately 900 megawatts. Fervo applies horizontal drilling techniques from the oil and gas industry to access underground heat resources. Unlike intermittent renewables, EGS generates electricity continuously by tapping subterranean heat. The facility aims to serve growing demand from data centres, artificial intelligence infrastructure, and manufacturing requiring reliable, carbon-free power. Cape Station builds on Fervo's Project Red, which has supplied grid electricity since 2023.
In global first, a next-gen geothermal plant goes live at utility scale. Fervo Energy is producing clean power at Cape Station in Utah. It's a big milestone, but the industry must tackle high costs and other barriers in order to scale. 28 September 2026 The geothermal startup Fervo Energy is now selling power to the grid from its Cape Station project in Utah - marking the first time a utility-scale, next-generation geothermal facility has achieved such a feat worldwide. The Houston-based firm turned on an initial 33-megawatt unit late last week and has been testing and ramping up output since then. On Thursday, Fervo will officially begin commercial operations, supplying carbon-free electricity to Shell Energy, a retail power provider in California. Cape Station, a $2 billion project that will eventually be 500 MW, is unique among the world's commercial geothermal plants. While other facilities draw on naturally occurring hot water and steam, Fervo has engineered its own geothermal resource deep underground. The startup uses drilling techniques from the oil and gas industry to create reservoirs in hot, dry rocks that generate steam to produce electricity. "Traditional geothermal would have never been done in southern Utah," said Dawn Owens, Fervo's senior vice president and head of development and commercial markets. With the first unit online, Fervo said it is working to commission two more 33-MW power blocks by Jan. 1, 2027. The project's remaining 400 MW - which is supported by a new agreement with Google - is under construction and slated to come online in 2028. Fervo already operates a 3.5-MW commercial pilot plant in Nevada, which went online in late 2023. Owens said the pilot, called Project Red, was important for demonstrating the technology itself. But firing up Cape Station proves that Fervo's approach can achieve utility scale and export power to wider markets. "This is massive for both Fervo and the geothermal industry at large," she said.
