Requirements
  • A certification or a minimum of 60 college credits in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a related field is required.
  • Successful experience applying law enforcement or public safety practices and techniques is required.
  • Adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation with First Aid and Automated External Defibrillation certification is required, or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and an acceptable driving record meeting the requirements of the College’s insurance carrier.
  • Must understand current public safety regulations and the CVTC student code of conduct policy and procedures.
  • Must be able to assess and act prudently and quickly in crisis situations and respond to emergencies.
  • Must know radio communication equipment and have basic knowledge of radio communication and APCO 10 codes.
  • Must know verbal and non-verbal tactics for safely de-escalating emotional persons.
  • Must be able to use judgment, discretion, and decision-making skills when handling confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Must be able to work independently with little direct supervision and effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be able to apply critical thinking and problem-solving practices, acquire relevant information, use technology and other resources appropriately, and evaluate alternatives.
  • Must communicate effectively by speaking and writing clearly, concisely, and professionally, including active listening and adapting communication for the audience.
  • Must have basic technology skills, including software programs for communication, data collection, and decision-making, including the Office 365 Suite.
  • Must demonstrate respectful interactions with people from varied ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds and understand the benefits of diversity in a higher education community.
Responsibilities
  • Create an atmosphere of strong customer service with students, staff, and community members on CVTC campuses.
  • Assist with College-wide security efforts to ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors.
  • Travel to and conduct proactive patrols at all Eau Claire and regional campuses.
  • Provide training to new student public safety officers and serve as a resource for continued student public safety officer training.
  • Provide work direction and maintain student officer training and work schedules.
  • Maintain and deliver Public Safety training programs for departments throughout CVTC.
  • Respond promptly to incident response requests.
  • As a member of the Emergency Response Team, provide safety and security guidance and support for events, drills, and procedure assessments.
  • Maintain a professional security presence.
  • Support Public Safety Office administrative functions.
  • Carry out College policies concerning campus safety, security, and parking.
  • Investigate disturbances, fire hazards, suspicious persons, hazardous conditions, and other campus conditions.
  • Perform facility security inspections, identify existing or potential problems, and recommend corrective or preventive measures.
  • Assist the responsible office with periodic checks and evaluations of security alarms and fire and smoke alarms, and report malfunctions.
  • Respond to calls for service and assist personnel as needed.
  • Patrol parking areas, communicate, and enforce parking and traffic regulations in accordance with College parking regulations.
  • Investigate violations of law or College policy and procedures and forward them to the proper authorities.
  • Provide security services for special events on College property as requested.
  • Investigate incidents, compile evidence, prepare accurate and detailed written incident reports, document investigation results, and submit written and verbal reports to a supervisor.
  • Respond to calls for service and maintain the pay-per-hour parking lot.
  • Respond to emergency call-ins when able.
  • Work a flexible schedule and travel to all CVTC campuses as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • An Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a related field is preferred.
  • Two years of experience working in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement is preferred.
