AHRC New York City provides services and advocacy for people who are neurodiverse, supporting over 15,000 individuals annually through programs that foster independent living, education, employment opportunities, and community participation. It also campaigns for changes in laws and public policy to improve access and equity. Guided by Equalism, it operates with a 5,000-strong staff in a family-governed structure and has worked for more than 70 years. Its goal is to help neurodiverse people lead full, equitable lives and to mobilize government, businesses, foundations, and the public to advance Equalism.

Both programs from AHRC New York City demonstrate the organization's focus on supporting staff, improving services, and transforming lives. AHRC NYC's Business Appreciation event is an evening dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the businesses that demonstrate a strong commitment to disability inclusion in the workplace.
For five years, AHRC New York City has partnered with NYC Health + Hospitals, and now New York State Office of Mental Health and NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities to enable people with developmental disabilities, autism and suspected IDD and autism, who have co-occurring mental health diagnoses, to exit unnecessary hospital stays and move into a community transition program, one with intensive clinical and case management supports.
