About the Job

Requirements

  • An M.D. or D.O. degree is required.
  • For applicants just completing residency, provide the residency procedure log and a list of completed rotations, as applicable.
  • Applicants not applying directly out of residency must provide a quality profile from hospitals where they currently hold privileges showing clinical activity for the last 12 months, including procedure counts, morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications.
  • Applicants must demonstrate active involvement in Family Medicine clinical work by providing a case log from the last 12 months that includes 25 vaginal deliveries, 50 adult medical patients, and 10 inpatient care cases involving children under 18, excluding normal newborns, as applicable to privileges requested.
  • Successful completion of a Family Medicine residency program accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association, or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is required; training at other accredited residency programs may be considered through the credentialing policy's waiver-of-eligibility process.
  • Certification in the primary practice area by the appropriate specialty or subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association, as applicable, is required. Applicants who have completed residency within the last five years may apply before board certification but must obtain certification within five years of residency completion unless the appropriate governing board waives the requirement.
  • Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice if they vary.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient Family Medicine care, including history and physical examinations; admit patients where applicable; evaluate, diagnose, treat, and consult on patients of all ages with a wide variety of illnesses, diseases, injuries, mental health conditions, and functional disorders.
  • Provide pre-operative care for surgical patients, post-operative medical care for surgical patients, and return-to-work assessments.
  • Participate in a 1:12 phone-only call schedule.

About the Company

Sanford Health

Nonprofit health system operating hospitals

Sanford Health is a large nonprofit health system that delivers hospital care, elder and post-acute services, and related health care through a network of hospitals, clinics, and senior care facilities across the Midwest. It operates by integrating multiple care settings into one system, supported by research and global health initiatives. Its model combines acute hospital care, long-term care, and post-acute services under a single organization, with a strong emphasis on philanthropy and mergers to expand reach and capabilities. The company differentiates itself through its breadth of services across the care continuum, extensive rural and regional presence, and a history of strategic mergers that create a full-spectrum care model rather than focusing on a single niche. Sanford Health’s goal is to provide comprehensive, accessible health care to communities, advance pediatric care and medical research, and extend health services through global clinics and partnerships.
