Requirements
  • The candidate must be independently licensed in Wisconsin as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or independently licensed in another state and eligible to apply for a Wisconsin license by reciprocity immediately upon hire.
  • The candidate must have experience treating diagnostically and/or culturally diverse client populations.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct mental health intake, urgent-care crisis, and triage assessments.
  • Provide professional counseling services, including individual, couples, and group counseling, with a priority on underserved student populations.
  • Provide referral, consultation, in-service training, outreach, crisis intervention, and public relations services to campus and community members as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with departments, offices, student organizations, and community treatment providers serving underserved populations.
  • Collaborate with the Counseling and Testing Center Assistant Director and staff to identify and implement strategies and programs that improve access for underserved students.
  • Coordinate and participate in outreach functions, prevention and education programs, and services related to underserved populations.
  • Coordinate and participate in in-service training for Counseling and Testing Center staff and the campus community.
  • Conduct applied research, needs assessments, and evaluations of counseling and outreach services related to underserved populations.
  • Provide initial brief assessment and urgent-care crisis coverage.
  • Select, administer, and interpret psychological, educational, and vocational assessments and tests within the scope of practice and training.
  • Supervise, train, and provide consultation support to clinical staff working toward independent licensure.
  • Collaborate and consult with university departments and offices to support and advocate for students.
  • Provide consultation to the university and La Crosse communities, with a special focus on AB&C departments.
  • Present and consult in Counseling and Testing Center training and clinical staff seminars.
  • Participate in campus staff development training sessions, professional conferences, continuing education workshops, and relevant committees and task forces.
  • Maintain clinical competence, professional organization memberships, and appropriate licensure under state statutes.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records of evaluation, treatment, consultation, correspondence, and case management.
  • Participate in administrative meetings for the Counseling and Testing Center and AB&C, including joint quarterly meetings.
  • Participate in appropriate university public relations activities.
  • Share responsibility for creating and maintaining an inclusive environment and a respectful, supportive work environment.
  • Communicate with the director and assistant director regarding absences, program ideas, concerns, and projects.
  • Perform other duties and projects assigned by the assistant director.
Desired Qualifications
  • Five or more years of experience as a licensed mental health professional, or equivalent experience necessary to provide clinical supervision toward state licensure for counselors in training.
  • Experience providing mental health treatment on a college campus or working in higher education with culturally and diagnostically diverse college students.
  • Experience conducting brief therapy with emerging adults for a wide range of presenting concerns.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision to trainees in a counseling setting.
  • Experience conducting outreach programming, presentations, training, or workshops relevant to college students from underserved populations.
  • Experience providing group counseling, including psychoeducational/skills, support, and therapy groups.
  • Experience with crisis intervention treatment.
  • Ability to provide bilingual treatment in Spanish and/or Hmong.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within interdisciplinary team settings.
  • Experience with electronic health records and computer applications used for telehealth services.
