Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, architecture, or a construction-related field.
  • At least five years of full-time experience as a technical specialist in one or more construction- and design-related fields.
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication.
  • Understanding of contract documents, including specifications and drawings.
  • Ability to address issues as they arise and solve problems.
  • Organized and able to manage the logistics of multiple projects concurrently.
  • Experience with new, rehabilitation, and modernization construction projects.
  • A driver’s license valid in New York State.
Responsibilities
  • Make decisions on project phasing and scheduling; prepare or ensure preparation of schedules for planning, design, and construction.
  • Monitor schedules and take appropriate actions to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within approved cost limitations.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with contractors, construction managers, and the client on project issues.
  • Participate in developing and issuing project procedures and policies; review procedures and policies and make recommendations.
  • Resolve issues and problems raised in field reports by architects and construction management staff.
  • Work with the architect or engineer of record on change orders, interpretation of contract documents, shop drawing submittals and approvals, and other technical matters to ensure a structurally sound, code-compliant, and aesthetic facility.
  • Issue field memoranda or directives to contractors to enforce contract compliance.
  • Use independent judgment to make on-site decisions.
  • Review contractors’ claims or disputed work and advise senior management on appropriate action.
  • Visit job sites as required to perform the duties of the role.
  • Ensure quality and high standards of performance and compliance in design and construction by consultants, vendors, and others.
  • Make timely decisions and take action to expedite completion of the construction process.
  • Correct design and construction mistakes and errors before they are extensively incorporated into the project, or as early in the construction process as possible.
  • Perform other related tasks.
