Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least five years of experience in the commercial construction industry overseeing ground-up projects in healthcare, financial, and light-industrial sectors.
  • Ability to lead and supervise teams, schedule and oversee multi-member teams, and coordinate subcontractors and stakeholders.
  • A Construction OSHA 30 card obtained within the last five years or the ability to renew it; maintaining a valid OSHA 30 card while working on projects and recertification every five years are required.
  • Proficiency in project reporting software, Microsoft Office, blueprint reading, and Procore.
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, quality standards, commercial building and construction, and related sectors.
  • Experience running all aspects of large commercial projects, including ground-up projects, interior renovations, finish work, and relocation and replacement work on projects valued at $2 million or more.
  • A high school diploma is the minimum; a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or an associate's degree from a vocational school is a plus.
  • Five to ten years of on-the-job experience.
  • Ability to travel to various job sites; travel may be up to 75%.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Current Red Cross First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Ability to work extended hours and night shifts as needed.
  • Ability to perform physical work at construction sites, including standing, walking, crawling, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, climbing stairs and ladders, using construction personnel hoists, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor construction environments with exposure to weather, noise, machinery, fumes or airborne particles, heights, and other site hazards; required personal protective equipment and safety gear must be used.
Responsibilities
  • Enforce OSHA requirements, the company safety plan, safety policies, and project work rules, and advocate for safety.
  • Supervise field construction to ensure projects meet design, budget, schedule, and customer objectives.
  • Conduct weekly on-site meetings with subcontractors, vendors, and other appropriate parties about schedules, safety, and field performance.
  • Oversee worker health and safety by enforcing company, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Prepare and distribute field reports, including daily superintendent and safety reports, in a timely manner.
  • Complete punch-list items within the customer’s timeframe and project budget, using Procore to manage punch lists.
  • Monitor subcontractor progress and manpower to meet project schedules and customer expectations.
  • Prepare subcontractor work schedules and provide input to the Project Manager for project construction schedules and updates.
  • Verify layouts, establish initial control lines and grades, and check subcontractor layouts.
  • Answer subcontractors’ questions about project documents and their work, provide documentation, and coordinate with the Construction Manager as appropriate.
  • Participate in pre-construction planning, including logistics, means and methods, bid and scope reviews, and project estimates.
  • Maintain an up-to-date set of contract documents on site.
  • Ensure subcontractors maintain record drawings, including red-line as-builts, during construction.
  • Organize and maintain the on-site field office so it presents a professional image.
  • Communicate timely with the Construction Manager about financial issues, safety, construction progress, labor issues, material problems, quality, and code issues.
  • Coordinate and work with Project Managers and other personnel, and collaborate with other Superintendents assigned to larger projects.
  • Manage and oversee other Superintendent levels, provide training, and mentor them.
  • Continue education in OSHA and safety, means and methods, codes, management skills, and new technology.
  • Maintain current Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Maintain current knowledge of permitting processes in the communities where work is performed and communicate changes to the office.
  • Maintain jobsite cleanliness to company standards.
