About the job
- Maintain a valid driver's license and meet company motor vehicle record standards, background-check, and drug-screening requirements.
- Work outdoors in the full range of seasonal weather conditions.
- Walk for extended periods over irregular terrain while carrying or using surface geophysical and surveying equipment, typically weighing less than 30 pounds.
- Pick up and carry equipment, tools, or supplies weighing up to 50 pounds for short distances and assist others with the same, including loading and unloading items into and out of vehicles and storage areas.
- Remove and replace manhole lids and covers weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance.
- Assist in identifying marked and unmarked utilities and structures in the field.
- Perform operator-level maintenance on assigned company tools and equipment as required.
- Assist in implementing approved traffic control plans.
- Work toward obtaining the operator qualifications required by clients.
- Follow established procedures to identify and repair broken trace wires on unlocatable gas lines.
- Operate a vacuum truck and related tools and equipment, including a jackhammer, pogo-tamper, concrete saw, compressor blower, vacuum hose, air lance, and hand tools such as shovels.
- Use proper forms and survey equipment to document work.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.

Peak Rock Capital has sold SAM Companies, a geospatial and inspection services provider for utilities and critical infrastructure, to New Mountain Capital. Financial terms were not disclosed. Under Peak Rock's ownership since 2021, SAM more than doubled revenue, completed 19 acquisitions, and expanded from its original footprint to add 25 offices. The company now serves 20 of the top 25 US utilities, providing end-to-end geospatial intelligence services across the critical infrastructure lifecycle. SAM, founded in 1994 and headquartered in Austin, Texas, uses advanced scientific methods to capture and analyse infrastructure data, supporting grid modernisation and AI-driven infrastructure investment. The company has developed technical and AI capabilities positioning it as an industry leader in the sector. Guggenheim Securities and Houlihan Lokey advised on the transaction.
