Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree or Doctorate degree in Pharmacy.
  • An active pharmacist license in Arizona.
  • Effective knowledge of state and federal pharmacy laws, rules, and regulations related to the practice of pharmacy.
  • Non-sterile compounding experience.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Ability to undergo respirator fit testing; full beards or substantial facial hair may prevent a proper respirator seal.
  • Ability to work with small, delicate pieces of expensive machinery to complete appropriate dosage forms in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with remote teams.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and work in positions including sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and walking for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to wear required compounding safety equipment for long periods when required.
  • Ability to work flexible shift times.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Proficiency in Windows-based computer systems.
  • Medical approval to wear respiratory protection, including N95, full-face respirator, SCBA, or Powered Air Purifying Respirator.
  • Willingness to confirm understanding of the potential reproductive risks of handling or compounding certain hazardous drugs.
  • Ability to perform the physical exertion required, including walking, standing, squatting, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds during shifts of up to twelve hours.
Responsibilities
  • Directly supervise all compounding personnel, including pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support personnel.
  • Perform and accurately document compounding procedures, quality assurance and quality control checks, and dispensing of compounded preparations.
  • Verify formula records, compounding records, beyond-use dates, and finished compounded products.
  • Assist in training and evaluating compounding personnel.
  • Coordinate equipment calibration, maintenance, and use for prescription compounding, and monitor the compounding environment with the maintenance team.
  • Follow safety, USP, Board of Pharmacy, and internal guidelines for preparing compounded medications.
  • Ensure safety precautions are taken during laboratory compounding, including when working with hazardous chemicals in accordance with USP <800> and applicable laws.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment when necessary.
  • Perform pharmacist activities including patient consultation and error documentation.
  • Coordinate with the Pharmacist-in-Charge on personnel, compliance, and regulatory matters.
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives, projects, tasks, and audits as part of the Continuous Quality Improvement program.
  • Complete external training as required.
  • Drive quality efforts by adhering to standard operating procedures.
  • Follow state and pharmacy regulations and rules designated by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy and the Food and Drug Administration.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment in accordance with Food and Drug Administration rules and regulations.
  • Perform drug utilization reviews, patient counseling, and dispensing activities.
  • Organize and direct technicians’ workflow; verify their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, order entries, charges, and inspections.
  • Protect patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols.
  • Perform assigned tasks including inventory, project work, compounding, record keeping, training, technician tasks, and auditing processes.
Desired Qualifications
  • Mail Service or Mail Order pharmacy experience is a plus.
  • Multi-state licensure is preferred.
