Bloom Energy vs NextEra: 37% revenue growth against 25% net margin in 2026 stock pick

Bloom Energy and NextEra Energy offer investors very different bets on clean power, according to a comparison of their FY 2025 results. Bloom, which makes on-site fuel cell systems for data centres, grew revenue 37.3% to nearly $2.0 billion. It posted a net loss of about $88.4 million and free cash flow of roughly $57.2 million. NextEra, which runs Florida Power & Light and a large renewables business, reported revenue of about $27.5 billion, up 11%. Net income was nearly $6.8 billion, and free cash flow was almost $3.2 billion. NextEra trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 19.1x against Bloom's 107.9x, and pays a 3.2% dividend. Bloom pays none.

Bloom Energy shares are still 19% below their record after a 53% slide, despite $1.07B quarterly revenue

Bloom Energy's stock has fallen 20% or more five times since September 2025. It recovered from four of those drops within about a month, but not the latest. Shares closed at a record $345.85 on June 22, then fell 53% to $163.75 by July 29. They have since risen about 71% to roughly $280, still about 19% below the peak. The slide came despite record results. Second-quarter revenue rose 166% year over year to about $1.07 billion, the first time the fuel cell maker passed $1 billion in a quarter. It raised its 2026 adjusted earnings-per-share forecast from $1.33-$1.48 in February to $2.55-$2.85. Valuation and short seller claims may explain the lag. Hunterbrook Media, which said it could profit from a fall in the stock, questioned Bloom's accounting and supply of scandium oxide on July 8. Bloom "categorically rejects" the claims.

Bloom Energy's Q2 revenue tops $1B as stock surges 200%, but is it too late to buy?

Bloom Energy's stock has risen more than 200% since last October and over 1,400% in five years. The company sells solid oxide fuel cells that generate power on site at data centres, letting AI developers skip long waits for a grid connection. Second-quarter product revenue hit $935 million, up about 215% year over year. Total revenue passed $1 billion for the first time, while operating expenses rose only to about $173 million from $111 million. Bloom swung from a $3.5 million operating loss to a $182 million operating profit. About 73% of revenue came from a single buyer, which could make growth less durable. Bloom plans a microgrid at the Fremont, California, campus of server maker miTAC Computing. The deal hints at expansion beyond data centres into the wider AI supply chain.

Grande Valley Data Center Campus gets permit approval.

Grande Valley Data Center Campus gets permit approval. In its Oct. 1 meeting, the Casa Grande Planning and Zoning Commission approved a conditional use permit request that will allow development of a new 954-acre data center campus south of Montgomery Road and Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. The request from owner LKY Development Company Inc. is part of the 2,250-acre Grande Valley Industrial master planned area approved last year. AZBEX was the first outlet to report on the master plan. (AZBEX; Oct. 15, 2024) A DATABEX project database update from last month reports LKY is looking for a buyer to purchase the Grande Valley Industrial site and take over development. The narrative for the Grande Valley Data Center Campus, prepared and submitted by Colliers Engineering & Design, says, "The Property is located within the Grande Valley Industrial area and is currently zoned General Industrial (I-2). If approved, the requested CUP will allow the development and operation of a data center campus with accessory on-site electrical generation and utility distribution infrastructure (the "Project"). The Project will provide digital infrastructure to meet growing computing demand and support technological and economic advancement at the regional and national levels. The Project has been designed with consideration for Arizona's arid climate and the importance of responsible resource stewardship, incorporating low- to zero ongoing water consumption cooling technologies, sustainable building practices, and low-emission/de minimis on-site electrical generation." The site is currently vacant and used for agricultural purposes, as is the land to the west. The Cactus Mine is situated to the north, while the Ivanhoe Mine lies to the east and south. The project will feature multiple data center buildings, on-site natural gas power generation and a battery energy storage system. The power component is planned as California-based Bloom Energy's first Arizona installation. The company has more than 1,000 installations around the U.S., according to a local news report. The narrative says, "The campus is designed to include dedicated on-site power generation to support each phase of development. Power will be supplied through a connection to the existing gas pipeline located directly adjacent to the southern boundary of the Property, which will provide fuel for the Project's on-site generation system. As currently designed, the campus is not anticipated to rely on a traditional electric grid connection for primary power service." The data centers will incorporate now-standard closed-loop cooling systems to minimize water use and environmental impacts. Development is planned in two phases. The article reported several members of the public and anti-data center activists spoke against the proposal. Opposition comments included concerns about water and power use, increased utility rates, community impact and project scale. The Commission voted 6-1 in favor of the CUP approval. LKY Development Company Inc. is the owner. Planning and entitlement are by Colliers Engineering & Design. Gammage & Burnham is the land use counsel.
