Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education is required.
  • Three to five years of teaching experience is required.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft applications for communication, reporting, and analyzing data and information is required, along with the ability to learn other software tools independently.
  • Experience using Scantron and other office equipment is required.
  • The ability to speak and write professionally to communicate data results to students, parents, faculty, and staff and prepare reports for a variety of audiences is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group tutorial services to a diverse population of undergraduate students.
  • Identify students' mathematical skill needs.
  • Differentiate strategies and instructional materials to meet individual students' needs.
  • Teach students specific math concepts.
  • Engage students in tutoring sessions by utilizing active learning strategies.
  • Foster student autonomy, as developmentally appropriate.
  • Motivate students by being an active listener.
  • Respect students' diverse backgrounds and unique perspectives.
  • Document student work and progress using the processes and systems established within the Math Lab.
  • Enter all data in a timely fashion as specified by the Manager of the Glenn Hubert Learning Center and Testing Center.
  • Communicate with the Manager of the Glenn Hubert Learning Center and Testing Center regarding students with challenging or unique situations and document record details through the specified means within the Math Lab.
  • Participate in professional development and training sessions related to tutor responsibilities.
  • Maintain currency in the content area by researching and developing new and varied instructional materials and strategies.
  • Actively participate in learning community meetings.
  • Participate in departmental professional development sessions and staff meetings throughout the semester.
  • Serve as a proctor for student placement testing.
  • Maintain currency with technological resources for instructional and recordkeeping purposes.
  • Monitor and arrange for replenishment of consumable materials used in the tutoring environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
