Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology is required.
  • No experience is required.
  • Certification is preferred.
  • The employee must understand, comply with, and perform all necessary safety procedures.
  • The employee must maintain compliance with safety training.
  • The employee must comply with competency testing procedures and laboratory training programs.
Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of routine and complex technical tasks and laboratory tests to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease.
  • Perform tests in clinical laboratories using standard techniques and equipment.
  • Handle specimens, use manual and automatic equipment to test specimens, and perform and report analytical tests.
  • Operate manual or computerized instrumentation.
  • Calibrate and maintain instrumentation according to standard operating procedures.
  • Process patient samples using appropriate identification techniques and written procedures.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of assay problems as directed by senior staff.
  • Communicate problems and issues to appropriate individuals.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in developing new medical laboratory tests and techniques.
  • Participate in preparation for laboratory inspections.
  • Review laboratory inspection documents and procedures, and report non-compliance issues to upper-level staff.
  • Perform proficiency testing as directed to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Document quality control and quality assurance results.
  • Notify upper-level personnel of instrument malfunctions or unusual or unexpected data or results.
  • Review written procedures and policies for accuracy and submit changes to the manager or designee.
  • Report all safety incidents within 24 hours.
  • Attend required laboratory meetings, safety training, and compliance training.
  • Provide technical guidance and instruction to students, interns, residents, staff, and other employees.
  • Cooperate and communicate effectively with co-workers to ensure effective workflow.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certification, including American Society for Clinical Pathology certification, is preferred.
  • A Clinical Laboratory Science degree is strongly preferred.
