At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.
We are a diverse team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin’s vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.
As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers, you will impact the development and implementation of a lifecycle cost strategy and process that influences engine design, analysis, manufacture, test, and operations for a portfolio of diverse engine development programs. In this role, you will impact design teams through proactive prediction of cost impacts and uncertainty based on design maturity and develop trade and analysis tools which will enable early decision-making. Using data from a variety of sources, you will be able to validate and update assumptions and tools to inform future process/data updates. As a thought leader for the business unit, your insights will help guide sustainable development and operations for years to come.
In this role, you will partner with program, finance, engineering and production teams to deliver rocket engines that meet life cycle cost requirements. Through this engagement, you will:
- Directly impact Blue’s mission to radically reduce the cost of access to space
- Contribute to the definition and analysis of rocket engine cost requirements and allocations and then implement phase-specific control through the use of non-weight-based cost forecasts and estimations
- Deeply understand designs and assign cost uncertainties based on design/analysis maturity, mass optimization strategy, manufacturing methods, etc., and operationalize these strategies through tool and process development
- Manage cost growth risk and opportunities; help teams develop mitigation plans throughout the product lifecycle
- Develop tools and training to facilitate learning among team members
- Aggregate cost data into easy-to-read reports for program leaders and design teams
- Build and maintain cost tools and databases, ensuring Blue colleagues have access to updated and authoritative value metrics for their parts, assemblies and commodities.
- Track status of critical data using technical performance measure (TPM) charts
- Develop approaches/tools to track cost predictions and comparison to actuals, including uncertainties and margins. Lead development of standard practices and general procedures for engine cost management and sustainment.
- Coordinate with programs and specialists to create logical process models of manufacturing processes for use in design decisions.
- Engage with other cost and data managers, manufacturing engineers, and enterprise software specialists to continuously improve enterprise tools and processes.
We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

- Proficiency in query creation (SQL, power Query, etc)
- Experience developing and updating cost models and cost estimates using both parametric and non-parametric methods
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Knowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication and integration processes, and quality control
- Extensive computer and database skills including MS Excel, MS Access, MATLAB, and CAD (Creo preferred)
- Ability to solve a variety of complex problems using analytical methods, simulation, and hands-on experimental testing
