Research Agreement Specialist
About the job
- A bachelor's degree in Law, Business, or Science, or a recognized equivalent, is required.
- At least three years of practical and related experience and one year of on-the-job training are required.
- Strong knowledge of contract law and principles of contractual agreements is required.
- Ability to manage and prioritize projects simultaneously; communicate, write, edit, analyze, negotiate, and problem-solve efficiently.
- Ability to work independently in a highly confidential, changing environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are required.
- Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and strong organizational abilities are required.
- Negotiate, draft, and review clinical trial agreements, investigator-initiated study agreements, research collaboration agreements, confidentiality agreements, material and data transfer agreements, sub-site collaboration agreements, and related agreements for clinical trials.
- Ensure agreements comply with UHN policies and external guidelines and requirements, including CAHO principles, the UofT affiliation agreement, TCPS2, Health Canada regulations, privacy legislation such as PHIPA and PIPEDA, and applicable foreign laws.
- Resolve issues and facilitate concerns of all parties, escalating impasses in a timely and effective manner while ensuring appropriate communication at all levels.
- Prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and manage multiple agreements simultaneously.
- Maintain agreement documentation in UHN's contract management system.
- Participate in other tasks and projects as required.
- Develop agreement strategies and review and assess study submissions to determine study complexity and requirements.
- Engage with internal stakeholders, including the Research Ethics Board, Research Financial Services, and senior management, for briefing and decision-making.
- Manage institutional risk, provide service and support to researchers, investigate barriers to study start-up, and develop standard operating procedures and review tools.
- A master's degree is an asset.
- Two years of experience drafting, interpreting, and negotiating agreements is an asset.
- Experience with clinical trial agreements, data transfer agreements, confidentiality agreements, or similar agreements is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with or experience in contracts or an academic research environment is strongly preferred.
- Experience in a Microsoft Office environment is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Power BI is an asset.
- Policy development and decision-making skills are an asset.
