This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security and human spaceflight.
As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will be responsible for mass properties control, analysis, verification, data management, and documentation for one or more engine program. Your engagement spans all program phases, from conceptual design, through development, production, deployment, and post-flight. Using experience and high-judgment, you make risk-based decisions to significantly streamline our engines mass properties management approach while ensuring a high likelihood of mission success. You will contribute to continuous improvement of mass properties processes and tools, relentlessly focusing on value and seeking to eliminate waste in our processes and tools whenever possible. This work will require close partnership with other enterprise engineers in mass properties, manufacturing, quality, cost, and software development. Your ability to partner and earn trust with folk across the organization is essential to our success.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop mass allocations from the system level to subsystems and components
- Perform detailed mass properties calculations from 3D CAD models
- Maintain mass properties database ensuring it reflects the most recent configurations
- Assign mass uncertainty based on your personal and deep understanding of design/analysis maturity and expected unit-to-unit variability
- Manage mass growth risk and opportunities; help teams develop mitigation plans throughout the product lifecycle
- Aggregate mass properties data into easy-to-read reports for program leaders and design teams
- Partner with design teams to develop mass properties verification plans at all levels of integration
- Develop plans and procedures to measure weight and CG of Engines and critical subassemblies
- Lead mass properties control board(s); presenting status and developing actions to ensure mass properties success
- Engage with other mass properties managers, manufacturing engineers, and enterprise software specialists to continuously improve enterprise tools and processes
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical, aerospace engineering, or a relevant technical degree
- 7+ years of experience in aerospace engineering or complex electromechanical systems
- 4+ years in mass properties engineering with aerospace or complex electro-mechanical products per ANSI/AIAA S-120 (2015), SAWE standard or similar
- Expertise in technical fundamentals of mass properties engineering, calculations, forecasting, and reporting
- Expertise with mass properties control processes, including identifying and resolving mass property threats and opportunities
- Experience developing and improving mass properties process and tool chains
- Experience in systems engineering practices and configuration management
- Significant software skills including MS Excel, MATLAB, and CAD (Creo preferred) and PLM (Windchill preferred)
- Experience weighing aerospace parts and complex assemblies
- Demonstrated ability to earn trust, develop collaborative professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Excellent technical writing and presentation skills
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of rocket engines and space vehicles
- Experience integrating mass controls in both development and production manufacturing environments
- Design experience including analysis and drawing development
- Experience developing Confluence pages and heavily working in JIRA, including writing JQL filters, use of Kanban boards, and managing projects using SCRUM
- Experience developing and executing Monte Carlo analysis for mass predictions
Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $120,060.00-$168,084.00
