  • Ability to read, interpret, and administer detailed instructions, schedules, and recipes in large quantities.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be ServSafe Certified or able to become ServSafe Certified within 90 days and maintain certification.
  • The position requires the ability to exert a minimum of 40 pounds of force.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare, cook, and serve meals, salads, and à la carte items; prepare entrees, vegetables, and other side dishes according to standardized recipes; and maintain accurate food-preparation documentation.
  • Serve as a cashier in the school cafeteria, collect money, and use a computerized point-of-sale system to accurately record sales and all food leaving the serving line.
  • Follow procedures for the exchange and collection of monies, assist in preparing deposits, and deliver bank deposits as needed.
  • Provide leadership and manage the cafeteria in the absence of the Child Nutrition Services Manager.
  • Complete required records, reports, inventories, and vending procedures.
  • Ensure the kitchen area, equipment, and utensils are kept clean according to sanitation codes and follow a cleanliness-maintenance schedule.
  • Perform housekeeping duties including sweeping and mopping floors, wiping or washing tables and chairs, cleaning the bathroom, and cleaning serving, receiving, and dining areas.
  • Comply with policies and procedures in the Wake County Public School System Child Nutrition Handbook.
  • Provide effective communication and customer service to students, parents, and school system staff as appropriate.
  • Use computers, scanners, copiers, and cafeteria and food-preparation equipment in an office and school cafeteria environment.
Desired Qualifications
