Requirements
  • A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse is required.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state is required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • Registered nurses hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing must enroll in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program within two years and successfully obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
  • The employee must be able to perform the stated standing, sitting, walking, stair-climbing, indoor, temperature-extreme, elevated-area, confined-space, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting, pinching, grasping, fine-manipulation, reaching, repetitive-motion, leg-use, balance, lifting, carrying, force-exertion, vision, color-discrimination, depth-perception, peripheral-vision, hearing, tactile-sensory, olfactory-sensory, and respirator-use functions as applicable.
  • The employee must be able to deal effectively with stressful situations, work rotating shifts and overtime as required, and work in a latex-safe environment.
  • The employee must have employment authorization verified through the federal E-Verify program.
Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level using the principles and practices of the nursing process.
  • Deliver safe and effective care and interact with other members of the healthcare team to achieve desired results.
  • Provide nursing care using assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Direct and lead assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide age- and developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards of care and practice.
  • Provide patient- and family-centered care focused on physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
  • Assess patients, develop nursing diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan and implement interventions, coordinate care, provide health teaching and promotion, and evaluate goals and interventions consistent with MUSC policies.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment by ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior.
  • Participate in a professional practice model, including shared governance, adherence to standards of care, peer review, professional development, leadership and clinical excellence, team skills, autonomous practice, accountability, and critical thinking.
  • Coordinate the effective and efficient delivery of patient care services through care management principles.
  • Identify clinical priorities and initiate action to improve patient outcomes.
  • Promote a healthy work environment and accept personal responsibility for professional growth.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Nursing degree is preferred.
