Requirements
  • A degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is required; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • At least 15 years of progressive operations experience, including supervisory experience, with a general contractor is required.
  • Design-build experience on relevant project types is required.
  • A valid state-issued driver's license, qualifying vehicle insurance, and a satisfactory driving record are required.
  • OSHA 30-hour Certification is required.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification is required.
  • The candidate must understand the services, policies, processes, procedures, and systems of a construction design-build general contractor.
  • The candidate must have strong knowledge of internal operations, the construction industry, and the local construction market.
  • The candidate must be able to maximize profitability, balance client needs and expectations, maintain company standards and reputation, and mitigate risks.
  • The candidate must be able to lead and supervise employees, including mentoring and developing capabilities in others.
  • The candidate must understand buyout, scheduling, sequencing, documentation compliance, means and methods, quality control, cost control, and change management.
  • The candidate must understand multiple project delivery types, including Design-Build, CM at Risk, CM not at Risk, and General Contractor delivery.
  • The candidate must understand prime and subcontract provisions and contract delivery methods, including lump sum, guaranteed maximum price, and cost-plus, and be able to mitigate associated risks.
  • The candidate must know estimating techniques, cost control systems, and cost accounts.
  • The candidate must be able to read and understand drawings, specifications, maps, surveys, mechanical and electrical sheets, project schedules, cost reports, and other construction documents, including contract provisions addressing scope of work and design criteria.
  • The candidate must understand local, state, federal, and company safety and environmental regulations, codes, and construction-industry requirements.
  • The candidate must be able to impart knowledge to others and understand the relationships and impacts among construction subtrades.
  • The candidate must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and make timely decisions.
  • The candidate must have organization, time management, planning, prioritization, communication, presentation, active listening, interpersonal, negotiation, mathematical, and analytical skills.
  • The candidate must maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • The candidate must have strong industry contact relationships and be able to assist in identifying and securing profitable new business.
  • The candidate must be proficient with computers, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and CMiC.
  • The candidate must be willing and able to work extended hours and flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends, and to travel.

Responsibilities
  • Manage, supervise, coordinate, and ensure the successful completion of projects for assigned business units.
  • Mentor, develop, and train the business unit's operations staff, including project management and field supervision staff.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment to perform daily duties and resolve business operations issues.
  • Participate in establishing and communicating short- and long-term business-unit goals and objectives.
  • Recommend improvements to business operations, processes, procedures, and best operating practices to improve efficiency, profitability, and client satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with company staff, prospective and current clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors, and oversee operations staff's client relationships.
  • Review contracts and assist leadership and Risk Management with mitigating risks associated with project and contract terms.
  • Identify key issues in contract disputes and assist in mediating acceptable resolutions.
  • Assist leadership and Risk Management in managing warranty and post-warranty claims.
  • Oversee projects to ensure quality completion on time and within budget.
  • Review project performance, including staffing, document control, job cost management, quality control, change-order processing, and fee attainment or enhancement.
  • Ensure subcontracts are bought fairly and equitably and that scopes are purchased at current market prices.
  • Act within and ensure compliance with the company's Levels of Authority.
  • Coordinate with staff to resolve operating problems and challenges and resolve conflicts that could impede business-unit goals and client expectations.
  • Plan, manage, and complete assignments and projects accurately and on time, taking responsibility for team performance and productivity.
  • Provide staff with timely operational and strategic information for informed decision-making.
  • Provide staff leadership and guidance and oversee efficient business-unit operation and policy compliance.
  • Identify workforce needs; assist with local recruiting, interview candidates, and assist in selecting new staff.
  • Communicate regularly with staff, evaluate operations-staff performance, provide ongoing feedback, and assist leadership with formal performance evaluations.
  • Recommend personnel actions, including salary adjustments, bonuses, promotions, layoffs, training, and disciplinary actions.
  • Create and foster collaborative team relationships.
  • Conduct or participate in client presentations.
  • Identify new work opportunities, advise leadership about potential projects, and lead or participate in pursuing project leads.
  • Participate in applicable corporate meetings and forums.
  • Perform project management and superintendent duties as needed to maintain proper job-level performance.
  • Comply with safety policies, report safety concerns, recommend safety-program enhancements, and support the company's safety culture.
  • Oversee safe, clean, and orderly construction activities and job-site compliance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Program, including subcontractor communication, issue resolution, and event documentation.
  • Ensure staff remains current in required safety training and certifications.
  • Stay current on construction-industry changes, best practices, construction methods and materials, costs, wage rates, fringes, working rules, construction software, and technology, and share relevant information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
