Requirements
  • Must hold a valid registered nurse license and have three years of registered nurse experience.
  • Must be able to weigh no more than 250 pounds when fully clothed.
  • Must be able to lift a 250-pound patient onto a stretcher, carry the patient and stretcher at least 50 feet, and load them into a helicopter with another provider.
  • Must have Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, NIMS ICS 100 and 700, and one of TNCC, BTLS, PHTLS, or ITLS.
  • Must obtain neonatal resuscitation certification within six months of hire.
  • Must hold a specialty certification such as CEN, CCCRN, CFRN, or CTRN.
  • Must have knowledge of diagnosing and treating injuries and disease in adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
  • Must understand emergency and critical care nursing for inter-facility and scene transports.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must remain calm in emergency conditions and provide physical and psychological treatment and comfort to patients.
  • Must withstand noise, external weather conditions, and high-altitude work.
  • Must comply with weight and lifting restrictions and requirements.
  • Must be able to fill shifts at the Jackson UMMC campus or a remote site as required.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, plan, administer, and document nursing care for patients during transport.
  • Provide physical and psychological comfort to patients, monitor their condition during transport, and monitor adverse reactions to drugs or treatment.
  • Precept medical students, residents, and paramedic students.
  • Ensure equipment and supplies are available and functional, and report equipment failures.
  • Participate in community outreach programs.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance of patient care provided during flight transport and prepare and maintain applicable reports and documentation.
  • Evaluate, plan, provide, and document care for patients in disaster, air or ground transport, and hospital environments.
Desired Qualifications
  • Alabama and Louisiana registered nurse licenses are preferred.
  • Advanced Burn Life Support and Advanced Stroke Life Support certifications are preferred.
