Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years of casualty claims or litigation experience is required.
- A college degree is required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
- Sound comprehension of insurance coverage under casualty liability and excess liability policies is required.
- Ability to analyze and convey summaries of complex issues verbally and in writing, recognize alternative approaches, and develop action plans is required.
- Experience determining contractual obligations, analyzing insurance coverage, and conducting investigations is required.
- Ability to manage complex litigation, set loss and expense reserves, and evaluate settlement values is required.
- Ability to work collaboratively and assist within the Unit and Casualty Division as needed is required.
- Ability to proactively and independently manage a caseload is required.
Responsibilities
- Investigate, negotiate, and settle complex primary and excess casualty policy claims, including negligence, premises liability, commercial automobile, construction bodily injury, construction defect, product liability, and sexual assault claims.
- Investigate and analyze coverage under primary and excess casualty insurance policies, make coverage determinations, draft routine and complex coverage correspondence, communicate coverage positions to policyholders and other stakeholders, and manage claims involving coverage litigation.
- Manage litigation filed nationwide against insureds; appoint, direct, and manage defense counsel; work proactively toward economical and timely claim resolution; and assist internal business partners, including claims vendor management, disbursement, and legal collections teams, with defense counsel, bill payment, and collection issues.
- Communicate with underwriting as needed to manage claims and report significant developments.
- Promptly communicate adverse case developments to management and provide information on pertinent issues affecting professional liability product lines.
- Analyze and convey summaries of complex issues, recognize alternative approaches, and develop action plans orally and in writing.
- Maintain and adhere to internal guidelines and procedures.
- Ensure proper adherence to internal reporting requirements.
- Contribute to and assist in implementing initiatives, discussions, and action plans brought forward by management.
- Participate in agent-related functions and meetings as required.
- Participate in the ongoing training and development of claims examiners.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience managing, overseeing, and partnering with third-party administrators, managing general agents, and/or managing general underwriters is a plus.
- Professional designations are preferred.
- Insurance coverage litigation experience is a plus.
