Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Seven or more years of experience working as a Civil Engineer in the municipal engineering field.
  • Strong project management skills and experience.
  • Construction management experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail orientation, self-motivation, strong interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.
  • A flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedules to meet deadlines or client needs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • A valid driver's license, or the ability to obtain one.
  • The ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • The ability to operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions.
  • The ability to work outdoors during construction season.
  • The ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods during construction observation or surveying.
  • The ability to lift objects or containers weighing 50 pounds.
  • The ability to work scheduled and required hours.
Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of engineers, technicians, and support staff on general municipal projects from planning through design and construction.
  • Independently manage projects and collaboratively contribute to the design and development of project plans and specifications while working with and mentoring project team members.
  • Provide professional engineering services, including studies, planning, design, specifications, plans, reports, construction administration, construction observation, and project management.
  • Communicate with clients, supervisors, and project team members by providing updates and progress during all phases of projects.
  • Attend company, project, and client meetings as necessary.
  • Lead the preparation of proposals and participate in interviews to secure work for the firm.
  • Use independent initiative and make rational judgment calls.
  • Provide direction and work with engineering technicians and other team members to develop project plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate with other engineering teams on complex multidisciplinary projects.
  • Follow the company employee handbook and mandated safety policies.
  • Perform responsibilities in a conscientious, legal, and ethical manner with strong attention to detail.
  • Travel and stay out of town as required, and work overtime during the construction season when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • A Professional Engineer license, or the ability to become licensed within 6–12 months.
  • Experience preparing civil design drawings, specifications, and opinions of cost related to water and sewer utilities, roadways, drainage, and similar infrastructure.
  • Experience working with local, county, or state agencies.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, GeoPak, Google SketchUp Pro, or ArcMap Geographic Information System.
  • Participation in professional organizations and community leadership programs as appropriate.
