About the job

Requirements
  • The candidate must have 4–7 years of experience in product, UX, or UI design, with depth in both user experience and visual/interaction design.
  • The candidate must have experience as a founding or lead designer on a 0-to-1 or greenfield build, defining UX frameworks, interaction patterns, and design systems from scratch rather than refining an existing product.
  • The candidate must have a strong foundation in UX research methods, including interviews, usability testing, and surveys, and be able to translate findings into personas, journey maps, and actionable specifications.
  • The candidate must have experience building and maintaining a design system or component library from the ground up.
  • The candidate must be proficient in Figma or a comparable tool for flows, wireframes, and interactive prototypes from low to high fidelity.
  • The candidate must have experience designing multi-role, multi-stakeholder platforms and complex, data-heavy interfaces such as dashboards and score reports.
  • The candidate must have working knowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG, and responsive design principles.
  • The candidate must be comfortable operating with significant ambiguity and limited existing structure.
Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end UX strategy for Reach, defining personas, journey maps, and information architecture from a blank slate without legacy patterns.
  • Lead user research and discovery, including interviews, usability testing, and workflow analysis, with students, educators, administrators, and internal stakeholders to validate assumptions before design work begins.
  • Translate research findings into user flows, task flows, and interaction models across student, educator, and administrator experiences.
  • Build wireframes and interactive prototypes to test concepts with users and stakeholders before high-fidelity design.
  • Define the information architecture and navigation model for a multi-role assessment platform so each user type can find what they need efficiently.
  • Turn assessment data into clear, actionable displays, including score reports, dashboards, and configuration screens, that educators can use to make decisions quickly.
  • Design onboarding and in-product guidance for educators and administrators.
  • Establish and track UX success metrics, including task success and usability scores, and use them to inform the product roadmap for new features and usability improvements.
  • Build and maintain a scalable design system and component library from day one, providing a shared source of truth for design and engineering.
  • Own high-fidelity visual design for every screen, including typography, spacing, color, and real content, after flows are validated.
  • Design accessible, responsive user interfaces compliant with WCAG standards from the start.
  • Design print and PDF layouts for generated reports and assessment materials.
  • Partner with Engineering on design specifications and developer handoff, and conduct design quality assurance to ensure shipped work matches design intent.
  • Continue supporting, iterating, and expanding the Reach design system and user experience as new assessments and features are added after launch.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in K-12 education, assessment, or clinical/behavioral health products.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted design or product workflows.
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS or React/Next.js for closer engineering collaboration.
  • Experience mentoring designers or setting design standards adopted across multiple product teams.
