Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Services, Human Nutrition, or a related field is required.
  • Registration as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist by the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutrition eligibility through the Commission on Dietetic Registration is accepted if registration is obtained within three months of hire.
  • Colleagues must understand computers and be competent in using computers and basic software programs.
Responsibilities
  • Screen inpatients and outpatients for nutritional risk using established protocols and policies.
  • Maintain an appropriate patient caseload and prioritize patient consultations.
  • Participate in patient rounding.
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy, education, and resources to hospital staff and the community.
  • Interact with the Patient Room Service Team regarding patients' meal plans, allergies, meal intake, special food requests, snacks, and other food needs.
  • Document and record patient information accurately and promptly in the electronic medical record.
  • Document according to established guidelines, protocols, and critical pathways and maintain updated inpatient records.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate outpatient records and send completed reports to physicians.
  • Provide age- and disease-specific nutritional instruction and consultations for individuals and families according to their needs and preferences.
  • Interact with physicians and other medical personnel as part of the patient care team.
  • Participate in professional and collegial interactions with peers and students.
  • Work collaboratively with peers and other healthcare providers through ongoing in-services and educational seminars.
  • Report safety-related incidents in a timely manner through the Midas/RDE tool.
  • Attend safety-related training programs and perform work safely.
  • Monitor the work environment for safety issues and ensure others also work safely.
  • Comply with state and federal regulations, statutes, company policies, hospital policies, departmental policies, and patient-care and safety standards.
  • Keep required certifications and licenses current and valid before expiration.
  • Complete mandatory company modules and job-specific training within the specified timeframe.
  • Complete manual and electronic forms accurately.
  • Ensure registration remains current and valid before expiration.
  • Complete an annual competency evaluation.
  • Complete annual evaluations for the clinical aspects of Dietitian positions.
  • Maintain patient menus, recipes, and nutrient values in Room Service Choice, update them when changes are made, and review them annually.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Advanced practice or specialist certification in diabetes, weight management, or another specialty.
  • Experience as a Registered Dietitian in healthcare.
  • Membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Experience with enteral or tube feedings, including total parenteral nutrition (TPN).
