About the job

Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with a focus on antennas and/or computational electromagnetics.
  • Have a strong theoretical and practical understanding of antenna theory and electromagnetic wave propagation, as well as basic microwave engineering concepts such as transmission lines, impedance matching, baluns, S-parameters, linear systems, and filter design.
  • Be proficient in computational electromagnetic simulation tools such as CST and XFDTD.
  • Have experience with PCB schematic and layout tools such as Altium Designer and Cadence.
  • Have hands-on experience with microwave measurement equipment such as vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.
  • Have hands-on experience designing, prototyping, and building functional antenna systems.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Have strong communication and documentation skills and the ability to work well in a team and across disciplines.
Responsibilities
  • Design and evaluate antennas for a given wireless channel link budget from first principles while considering solution trade-offs and key performance indicators.
  • Perform computational electromagnetic simulations and develop new simulation models using full-wave electromagnetic software tools.
  • Analyze and interpret simulation results and provide insights and recommendations for design improvements and performance optimization.
  • Build mockups for proof-of-concept prototypes and test vehicles, build test fixtures and platforms, and create solutions to automate antenna system development and testing workflow data analysis.
  • Assist in the PCB layout design process and design-for-manufacturing reviews with vendors and external manufacturing partners.
  • Integrate antennas into complete device form factors by collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Carry out antenna characterization and ensure that integrated antennas meet specifications in free-space and on-body conditions from prototype through mass production.
  • Assist in sensor calibration to reduce device-to-device variability and maintain reliable performance across operating conditions and user-study cases.
  • Optimize the hardware system for low-noise and low-interference operation, high-resolution signal detection and processing, regulatory compliance, and power-budget requirements.
  • Document designs, experiments, and studies, and report findings and recommendations to the wider team.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with on-body or implantable wireless devices, sensing, or imaging applications.
  • Experience with ultra-wideband, directional miniaturized antennas, multiband antennas, flexible electronics, e-textiles, ultra-low-power wireless systems, or integrated sensing and communications.
  • Experience with design optimization and inverse design techniques for electromagnetic structures.
  • Experience with de-sense, coexistence, electromagnetic compatibility/electromagnetic interference, and over-the-air performance.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques for signal processing or time-series data, including preprocessing, feature extraction, or integration with deep learning models.
  • Experience with Python or MATLAB for scripting, data processing, and test automation.
  • Publications or conference presentations in relevant areas.

About the company

Tacit builds an AI-powered digital twin platform for building operations that connects to a building’s existing infrastructure—HVAC, BMS, meters, and IoT sensors—to unify data. Its Agentic AI uses context-aware agents to diagnose, troubleshoot, and autonomously adjust systems, reducing the need for manual intervention and addressing issues like HVAC faults. It provides root-cause analysis, predicts equipment degradation, and continuously optimizes energy use in real time based on occupancy and weather, with audit trails ensuring transparency. The goal is to automate a significant portion of building issues to lower operating expenses, reduce energy waste, and free facilities teams for more strategic work.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • March 2026 Haatch-led funding supports commercial rollout across the UK and Greece.
  • Tacit reported 10-30% energy savings and 10-100x faster diagnostics in pilots.
  • London hiring for sales and machine learning roles signals active go-to-market expansion.

What critics are saying

  • March 2026's €300k round leaves Tacit undercapitalized for long enterprise sales cycles.
  • Schneider Electric, Johnson Controls, and Siemens own incumbent BMS relationships and distribution.
  • A failed 2026–2027 rollout across UK portfolios kills Tacit before repeatable revenue emerges.

What makes Tacit unique

  • Tacit's UCL research base and Greek founders anchor rare building-operations AI credibility.
  • March 2026 pilots cut UCL building energy 18% and saved £270k annually.
  • Tacit agents diagnose HVAC faults autonomously, with audit trails for every action.
