Fortrea Holdings reported second-quarter revenue of $678.2 million, exceeding analyst estimates by 4.7% despite a 4.5% year-on-year decline. The clinical research company's adjusted earnings per share of $0.23 beat consensus estimates by 27.2%. The company raised its full-year revenue guidance to $2.66 billion at the midpoint, up 2.1% from previous guidance and 1.8% above analyst expectations. Full-year EBITDA guidance of $212.5 million also surpassed estimates. Operating margin improved significantly to 2.2%, compared to negative 46.5% in the same quarter last year. CEO Anshul Thakral said the results reflect continued progress against the company's strategy. However, analysts project revenue to remain flat over the next 12 months, suggesting limited near-term growth prospects.
Fortrea, a global contract research organisation, has appointed Jason Knoblauch as chief financial officer, effective 6 July 2026. He will succeed Jill McConnell, who is stepping down after helping establish Fortrea as an independent CRO. Knoblauch joins from Clario, where he served as CFO. He previously held the CFO position at Curia and various financial leadership roles at Pharmaceutical Product Development, including interim CFO and helping lead the company to a successful IPO in 2020. Earlier, he worked in PricewaterhouseCoopers' Transaction Services practice. The company reiterated its 2026 financial guidance, targeting revenues between $2,550 million and $2,650 million, with adjusted EBITDA of $190 million to $220 million.
Why Fortrea (FTRE) stock is trading up today. Anthony lee /. June 24, 2026 What happened? Shares of clinical research company Fortrea Holdings (NASDAQ:FTRE) jumped 4.6% in the morning session after Barclays raised its price target on the company's shares to $18 from $16, while maintaining an Equal Weight rating. The adjustment by analyst Luke Sergott was part of a second-quarter preview for the life science and diagnostic tools space. According to the analyst's research note, tools are "gaining favor among healthcare subsectors," a trend that is likely to continue into the earnings reporting season. Barclays expects companies in the sector to report quarterly results that are in-line with or slightly better than expectations. What is the market telling us. Fortrea's shares are extremely volatile and have had 64 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today's move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business. The biggest move we wrote about over the last year was 8 months ago when the stock gained 25.3% on the news that the company reported third-quarter financial results that showed stronger-than-expected revenue and an improved outlook for the full year. For the third quarter, Fortrea announced revenues of $701.3 million, which surpassed analyst estimates. However, its adjusted earnings of $0.12 per share fell short of projections. Despite the mixed bottom-line results, investors appeared to focus on the company's future prospects. Fortrea raised its revenue guidance for the full year to a midpoint of $2.73 billion, up from its previous forecast of $2.65 billion. This improved outlook, along with the strong quarterly sales, signaled confidence in the company's growth, outweighing the earnings miss. Fortrea is up 2.9% since the beginning of the year, and at $17.30 per share, it is trading close to its 52-week high of $18.40 from January 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Fortrea's shares at the IPO in June 2023 would now be looking at an investment worth $574.58. WHILE YOU'RE HERE: The Next Palantir? The clinical research services company's adjusted EBITDA reached $47 million, beating analyst estimates of $34.61 million. CEO Anshul Thakral attributed the performance to improved commercial execution and a rebound in biotech client activity, with the company achieving a higher book-to-bill ratio for the third consecutive quarter. CFO Jill McConnell highlighted operational discipline and cost-optimisation initiatives as key drivers of margin expansion. Fortrea reaffirmed its full-year revenue guidance of $2.6 billion at the midpoint and raised EBITDA guidance to $205 million, above analyst estimates of $201.8 million. The company's market capitalisation stands at $1.42 billion.
Fortrea Holdings reported first-quarter 2026 revenue of $636.5 million, down from $651.3 million year-on-year, whilst narrowing its net loss to $23.6 million. The contract research organisation reaffirmed its full-year 2026 revenue guidance of $2.55 billion to $2.65 billion. Despite the slight revenue decline, the company's significantly reduced quarterly loss and maintained outlook address earlier concerns about performance consistency. Management's decision to hold guidance suggests sufficient booked work to support near-term targets, indicating cost reductions, AI tools and commercial initiatives may offset slower bookings and pricing pressure. However, investors should note Fortrea's revenue concentration amongst its largest customers remains a risk. The most optimistic analysts project revenue of approximately $2.9 billion and earnings of roughly $445 million by 2029, considerably above consensus estimates.
