About the company

Air Apps builds mobile apps for people who need practical tools for translation, document handling, calculations, and other daily tasks. Its translation app combines text, voice, and camera translation, while Scanner Air lets users scan, sign, and share documents from a phone. Its software uses device features such as cameras and keyboards to turn these tasks into dedicated apps, and translation tools also work across Apple's phones, tablets, watches, and computers. Users download the apps through app stores and pay subscriptions for premium features. Air Apps was founded in 2018 in Lisbon and is headquartered in San Francisco, with a second office in Lisbon.

What believers are saying

  • Products already reach scale: Air Apps reports more than 114 million downloads across its portfolio.
  • Lisbon engineers get family support: Air Apps' iOS listing includes childcare assistance, a pension fund, and annual bonuses.
  • Engineers own a suite: Air Apps' Lisbon iOS role combines product development, code reviews, and junior mentoring.

What critics are saying

  • Office flexibility varies by role: Air Apps lists its Lisbon Office Coordinator position as fully onsite.
  • Translate Now faces Apple gatekeeping: its App Store releases must satisfy Apple's changing review rules.
  • Free substitutes challenge subscriptions: Google Translate includes voice, camera, and offline translation for free beside Air Apps' paid plans.

What makes Air Apps unique

  • Air Apps keeps product control: its team designs and builds every portfolio app instead of licensing a third-party catalog.

  • One purchase spans unrelated tools: Air Apps One unlocks premium features in more than 38 apps.
