  • The candidate must have a valid North Carolina driver's license.
  • The candidate must have at least eight years of driving experience.
  • The candidate must be able to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • The candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED, or have passed the Alternative Exam provided by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Division of Health Service Regulation.
  • The candidate must be able to read, write, understand, and follow directions.
  • The candidate must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • The candidate must have course-related studies or at least six months of experience working in a recreational environment with individuals in a group setting.
  • The candidate must possess good computer skills.
  • The candidate must complete a two-step tuberculin skin test, with the first test before hire and the second within two weeks of the first test.
  • The candidate must maintain resident confidentiality and uphold the Adult Care Home Residents' Bill of Rights.
  • The candidate must not have substantiated findings on the North Carolina Personnel Registry or Health Care Program.
  • The candidate must have clear State Bureau of Investigation and Department of Motor Vehicles records and maintain them during employment.
  • The candidate must have or obtain a certificate for the basic activity course for assisted living activity directors within nine months of the start date.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate activities designed to promote the active involvement of residents living in an Assisted Living Community.
  • Demonstrate involvement with all residents, staff, residents' families, volunteers, and community resources.
  • Maintain a written, updated list of residents' interests and capabilities.
  • Using the Activities Supervisor's Guide, plan a minimum of 14 hours of group and individual activities per week based on residents' interests.
  • Prepare a monthly calendar for planned activities in large print, post it prominently on the first day of each month, and update it as needed before activities take place.
  • Include social and recreational, diversional and intellectual, work-type, and volunteer activities on the posted calendar.
  • Participate in evaluating the overall effectiveness of the activities program at least once every six months.
  • Assist residents with transportation related to the activities program when directed by the Executive Director or Administrator.
  • Plan for assisting residents to participate in at least one outing every other month.
  • Inventory and purchase activity supplies, including recreational equipment, game supplies, books, current magazines, and daily newspapers, while operating within the community's budget and administrative policy.
  • Ensure receipts for activity supplies are signed and kept on file for the Executive Director or Administrator.
  • Help maintain each resident's self-respect, personal dignity, and physical safety.
  • Report accidents or incidents to the Executive Director, Administrator, Administrator-in-Charge, or supervisor-in-charge.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff and relate favorably to residents and families.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information and follow applicable requirements.
  • Apply the home's accident, fire safety, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and emergency procedures.
  • Be familiar with the Adult Care Home Residents' Bill of Rights and assist residents in exercising these rights.
  • Ensure careful treatment of Adult Care Home equipment and proper utilization of supplies.
  • Read and adhere to all Adult Care Home and employee policies.
  • Participate in job-related continuing education as instructed by the Executive Director or Administrator.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by the Executive Director or Administrator.
