Responsibilities
  • Oversee a high-performing team and serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership.
  • Design and implement an internal communications strategy aligned with Emory School of Medicine priorities.
  • Integrate communication priorities across the dean's office and system-wide functions into broader internal communication efforts.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership, providing counsel on communication efforts that drive engagement, trust and organizational alignment.
  • Ensure consistency in tone, voice and messaging architecture across platforms and audiences.
  • Monitor and share best practices and new trends in internal communications.
  • Build, lead and mentor a high-performing internal communications team.
  • Foster a team culture of innovation, creativity, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear direction and provide growth and development opportunities for team members.
  • Draft and coordinate high-impact communications from the dean and executive team, including messages, talking points and speeches.
  • Lead annual planning and development of an editorial calendar supporting the dean's office vision and priorities.
  • Define and implement a regular cadence of communications from the School of Medicine dean and leadership team.
  • Develop strategies that build trust, support transparency and ensure the effectiveness of the dean and leadership team.
  • Partner with leaders of school-wide functions, including human resources, faculty professional development, research administration, School of Medicine information technology, community and engagement, and education, to develop aligned strategies.
  • Build integrated strategies that drive system-wide business objectives, elevate the employee and learner experience, and support operational excellence.
  • Manage communications platforms, vehicles and editorial calendars to ensure timely, clear and consistent messages.
  • Develop metrics and reporting tools to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of communication efforts.
  • Provide regular reporting to the Executive Administrator for Communications and other leaders as needed.
  • Oversee complex communication projects from concept through execution, ensuring high-quality delivery.
  • Act as a connector between the dean's office and departments to unify messaging and ensure strategic alignment.
  • Collaborate with internal communications teams at Emory Healthcare, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Georgia Tech and Grady Memorial Hospital to ensure alignment and consistency of messaging as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Emory University Office of the Provost, Office of Research and other academic offices to leverage integrated storytelling opportunities and promote faculty thought leadership and accomplishments.
  • Support internal responses to crises and urgent communications in collaboration with School of Medicine leadership, general counsel, the university reputation management team and media relations.
  • Lead emergency preparedness communications efforts.
  • Perform related responsibilities as required.
