About the job

Requirements
  • The candidate must have 4 or more years of software engineering experience, including significant backend or infrastructure experience.
  • The candidate must apply product sensibility by prioritizing user-facing metrics and distinguishing impactful infrastructure problems from non-impactful ones.
  • The candidate must have deep database expertise, including reading query plans, finding bottlenecks, and determining whether to fix a query, schema, or architecture.
  • The candidate must have operated production services and owned the pager, with the ability to respond methodically during incidents and postmortems.
  • The candidate must be familiar with job queues, asynchronous processing, or event-driven systems and understand when each is appropriate.
  • The candidate must be interested in developer tooling and how artificial intelligence changes engineering workflows.
  • The candidate must take a pragmatic approach to build-versus-buy decisions.
Responsibilities
  • Own, operate, and evolve the core data infrastructure, including PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, and asynchronous processing pipelines, while measuring p95 scheduling latency, agent action success rate, and message delivery reliability.
  • Own observability end-to-end, including metrics, logs, traces, alerting, dashboards, and the on-call and pager rotation.
  • Design, manage, and optimize the large language model infrastructure, including the gateway, evaluation pipelines, and agent observability, for reliability, performance, and cost.
  • Lead infrastructure migration decisions and execute them, including evaluating pg-boss against managed queue alternatives, assessing migration away from Postmark, and introducing Redis, Kafka, or similar systems when appropriate.
  • Partner directly with product engineers to ship features across infrastructure and product work.
  • Own developer experience by shaping local environments, Claude Code conventions, agent tooling, evaluation harnesses, and other AI-augmented engineering workflows.
  • Own DevOps, including deployment pipelines, environment management, capacity planning, and infrastructure cost.

About the company

Blockit AI provides an AI-powered executive assistant platform that autonomously negotiates and schedules meetings by deploying AI agents that coordinate via calendars, emails, and Slack. It integrates with Google and Outlook calendars, supports time zones, operates 24/7, and learns user preferences using natural language processing. It differentiates itself with dynamic, context-aware dialogue instead of static booking links and can infer priorities from email tone. Its goal is to reduce back-and-forth and secure optimal meeting times, with pricing of $1,000 per year for individuals and $5,000 per year for multi-user teams, after a 30-day free trial.

Sequoia leads $5m seed round for AI calendar startup Blockit

Sequoia leads $5m seed round for AI calendar startup Blockit. Former Sequoia partner Kais Khimji has launched an AI-powered calendar scheduling startup called Blockit, which aims to automate meeting arrangements. The company, which recently closed a US$5 million seed round led by Sequoia, plans to use large language models to handle scheduling more effectively than previous solutions. Unlike platforms like Calendly, Blockit's AI agents communicate directly between users' calendars to negotiate meeting times without human involvement. The system can be activated via email or Slack, and it learns user preferences to prioritize meetings based on tone and importance. Blockit is currently used by over 200 companies, including Brex and Rogo, and offers a free 30-day trial. How would you feel if you could no longer use Tech in Asia?
