His career has been primarily focused on the materials and chemicals industries, with senior leadership responsibilities spanning Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Before joining Arkema, Desné had served since 2022 as Chief Executive Officer of the Steel Wire Solutions (SWS) and Bekaert Bridon Ropes Group (BBRG) divisions and as a member of the Bekaert Group Executive Committee. Prior to Bekaert, he was Chief Executive Officer of Recticel's Engineered Foams business and a member of the company's Executive Committee. Earlier in his career, Desné spent a significant period with BASF, working within the company's Coatings and Performance Chemicals divisions. Based at different stages in Germany and across Asia-Pacific, including Japan, China and Singapore, he held positions in controlling, general management and senior executive leadership. His responsibilities covered several businesses, including Coatings, Leather & Textile Chemicals, and Water, Oil Field & Mining Solutions. Desné began his professional career with Rhodia, first in China and later in France. At Rhodia, he worked in areas including quality management and application development, notably within silicones. His international career has therefore combined operational, commercial, financial and executive management responsibilities across a range of specialty materials and industrial markets. Arkema said his background includes experience in managing complex international organisations, driving business transformation and developing growth strategies while responding to the increasing importance of sustainability in industrial markets.
