Requirements
  • A high school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited medical assisting program is required, along with completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
  • Medical Assistant Certification or Medical Assistant Registration is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification is required. Direct patient care personnel must demonstrate competent cardiopulmonary resuscitation performance for adults, children, and infants according to a nationally recognized, standardized, credentialed healthcare provider course every other year.
  • At least one year of medical clerical experience, preferably in a hospital or physician office setting, or prior customer service experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, computer literacy, and keyboarding skills is required.
  • Organizational skills and effective human relations and communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for examinations and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms, other necessary measurements, chief complaints, and pain scores as appropriate; report conditions that may indicate a change in the patient's condition to the clinician.
  • Assist providers with examinations and minor in-office procedures, including taking blood pressure, documenting respiration and heart rate/pulse, taking temperature, performing ear irrigation and EKGs, and serving as a chaperone as needed. Use universal blood and body fluid precautions and personal protective equipment as needed, and prioritize patient flow through the clinical process.
  • Coordinate and manage patient care, including pre-certifications, authorizations, prescriptions, and patient scheduling. Communicate test results to patients and serve as a resource to clinicians to support optimal patient care. Administer medications in accordance with established policies and procedures or as directed.
  • Provide clerical support for patient/client notifications and documentation, including completing medical records, labs, authorizations, X-rays, hospital records, and records of previous care pertinent to each visit. Provide complete and accurate information for billing related to patient encounters in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean, functional environment by cleaning and disinfecting equipment, examination rooms, and storage areas. Disinfect equipment and instruments using appropriate solutions and sterilization procedures; follow manufacturer recommendations and OSHA guidelines for hazardous substances. Perform basic equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs.
  • Order supplies and stock patient care areas. Monitor inventory, including medications, injectables, immunizations, expired medications or equipment, and recalls.
  • Maintain effective communication with external and internal customers and demonstrate service-oriented behaviors in all interactions.
  • Complete required onboarding and orientation activities, including simulation training, as needed or directed.
  • Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards. Provide customers with an excellent service experience by demonstrating the organization's core and leader behaviors.
