Top 50 accounting firm Sorren muscles into legal services.

Top 50 accounting firm Sorren muscles into legal services. % buffered 06:52 It is generated by AI National accounting firm Sorren has launched Sorren Law, offering a range of legal services to clients and testing the boundaries between accounting and legal sectors. Backed by private equity firm DFW Capital Partners, Sorren's rapid growth and expansion into legal services signals a shift in professional services, with less distinction between financial and legal advisory, highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary approaches in the market. For years, an accounting firm could tell a client, "That part needs to go to your attorney," and move on. That sentence is starting to age badly. Sorren, the fast-growing national accounting and advisory firm formed only last year, has launched Sorren Law, giving clients access to legal services ranging from M&A and business transactions to estate planning, asset protection, contracts and litigation. On the surface, this looks like another professional-services expansion. Look closer, and it raises a bigger question for accounting firms: Where does the CPA firm end when tax, finance, legal risk and ownership decisions increasingly arrive in the same meeting? Sorren is not the first accounting firm to test that boundary. KPMG got there earlier. Aprio followed its own route. What makes Sorren interesting is the structure it chose and how quickly a firm born from consolidation has moved beyond traditional accounting. Sorren got Big fast. Sorren barely existed as a national brand 18 months ago. In May 2025, 13 accounting and financial services firms combined to create Sorren, with backing from New York private equity firm DFW Capital Partners. At launch, the group had roughly $170 million in combined revenue, more than 1,000 professionals and 20 U.S. offices. That starting line did not stay put for long. Inside Public Accounting reports FY2025 net revenue of $193.3 million, meaning Sorren added roughly $23 million compared with the revenue associated with its original combination. The firm has also continued acquiring practices around the country. Accounting Today placed Sorren among its Top 50 firms for 2026, while Sorren now operates with more than 1,000 professionals and a growing national footprint. That context matters. Sorren Law is not a random side project from a regional CPA shop. It arrives inside a PE-backed organization already assembling scale, technology, specialized talent and client relationships. In other words, Sorren spent its first chapter building the platform. Now it is adding more things to sell through it. Why is Sorren getting into legal services? Tax, ownership, transactions, succession, estate planning and legal risk often overlap. From the client's perspective, these are rarely separate strategic questions. They are connected decisions involving money, control, liability and long-term planning. Sorren CEO Josh Tyree said legal decisions frequently connect with a client's business, financial, tax, ownership and family objectives. That is essentially the thesis behind Sorren Law. The founding legal team comes from Mansfield & Mayo, a Nevada and Idaho law firm led by Patrick Mansfield and Massey Mayo. Sorren Law initially serves Nevada, Idaho and Texas, with broader expansion planned. Its work covers corporate matters, M&A, succession, estates, trusts, tax planning, asset protection and disputes. Here is where the fine print becomes the main story. Sorren Law remains owned exclusively by lawyers. Sorren itself does not own the law firm. Instead, Sorren Legal Support, a Sorren subsidiary, provides administrative and operational services under a management arrangement. That setup gives Sorren Law access to infrastructure without simply putting a PE-backed accounting organization in direct ownership of the legal practice. That is not legal housekeeping. It is the architecture making the expansion possible. KPMG already cracked the door. Sorren is entering a path that became considerably more visible in February 2025. That month, KPMG launched KPMG Law US after receiving approval from the Arizona Supreme Court, becoming the first Big Four firm with a U.S. law firm under Arizona's Alternative Business Structure, or ABS, framework. Arizona changed its rules effective January 1, 2021, allowing approved businesses with nonlawyer owners or decision makers to provide legal services through regulated ABS entities. KPMG Law US uses that opening directly. It operates as an independently managed KPMG subsidiary and focuses heavily on technology-enabled legal services, legal operations and managed services. Importantly, regulatory conditions prevent it from providing legal services to KPMG audit clients. Aprio also launched Aprio Legal through Arizona's framework in 2025. Sorren has taken another route. Rather than relying on nonlawyer ownership under an Arizona ABS license, its law firm stays lawyer-owned while a management-services organization handles supporting operations. Different plumbing, similar destination. Is accounting becoming the New one stop shop? Accounting firms still face hard limits around audit independence, attorney ethics, conflicts and ownership rules. That means integrated legal services may work well for transactions, succession and planning, while litigation or sensitive disputes may still demand greater separation. Traditional law firms should pay attention. Accounting firms already hold recurring client relationships, tax data, financial insight, technology budgets and growing access to private capital. Sorren also has speed on its side. It grew from a roughly $170 million combination to $193.3 million in FY2025 revenue and is now adding legal services to that platform. The likely future is not every accounting firm becoming a law firm. It is more multidisciplinary firms bringing tax, advisory and legal services closer together while keeping regulatory walls intact. For CPA firms, that changes the competitive question from who owns the accounting relationship to who owns more of the client relationship. Sorren Law may be one early sign of where that model is heading. Until next time...

Another accounting firm is getting into the law business.

Another accounting firm is getting into the law business. Idaho-HQd and private equity-backed Sorren (IPA #49 with $193,296,588 in revenue) announced yesterday that they've launched Sorren Law, "a separately constituted and regulated professional corporation that provides legal services in accordance with the relevant laws of jurisdictions in which it operates." For now, they're serving clients in just Nevada, Idaho and Texas, with plans to expand. To be clear, Sorren Law is owned exclusively by lawyers. The founding group is Mansfield & Mayo, an established law firm. If you haven't heard of Sorren that's OK, they're relatively new and only came about last year. Perhaps you've heard of the 13 regional firms that combined like Voltron to make them: SKR+CO (Colorado), SBF (Florida), Roeser Accountancy (California), Pisenti & Brinker LLP (California), KDP (Oregon and Idaho), Harris (Idaho), Chigbrow Ryan Murata (Idaho), Acuity, Aycock & Company (Texas), JRJBF (Illinois), or KMA, BrookWeiner and SSG (Midwest)? No? None of those ring a bell? OK I dunno what to tell you then. Sorren Expands Client Services with Sorren Law [Sorren]

Sorren adds two Nevada firms. Updated August 7, 2026, 1:56 pm Meridian, Idaho-based Sorren (FY25 net revenue of $193.3 million) added two Reno, Nev.-based firms, Persing Professional Group (PPG) and Carefree Professional Practice Resources (CPPR), expanding the firm's presence in northern Nevada. PPG provides tax, accounting, consulting, succession planning, cash flow management and CFO advisory services to privately held businesses and their owners. The firm serves clients in health care, construction and service-related industries. CPPR is a specialized tax and accounting firm serving dental practices and professionals, providing guidance on financial, tax and operational matters specific to the dental industry. "These two firms represent exactly the kind of organizations we want to align with - deeply rooted in their communities, committed to their clients and focused on creating opportunities for their people," said Sorren CEO Craig Grooms. The additions expand Sorren's presence in northern Nevada and add capabilities in health care, professional services and business advisory.
