Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Seven or more years of structural engineering experience, including reinforced concrete and marine or coastal structures.
  • Strong command of Eurocode, BS EN, DNV, and/or API standards.
  • Experience delivering projects from concept through detailed design and deployment.
  • Strong communication skills in a remote, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and finite element method tools such as SAP2000 and ABAQUS.
Responsibilities
  • Lead structural design for concrete marine and offshore structures, including novel 3D-printed systems.
  • Develop conceptual designs, detailed drawings, and specifications for prototypes and project deliverables.
  • Balance structural performance, code compliance, durability, and manufacturability in marine environments.
  • Evaluate constructability constraints and coordinate design details with fabricators and contractors.
  • Support project management activities, including scope definition, scheduling, technical documentation, and client coordination.
  • Prepare design reports, calculations, and documentation compliant with Eurocode, BS EN, and DNV standards.
  • Contribute to early-stage concept development and applied research and development efforts.
  • Support prototype development and testing, interpreting structural behaviour to refine design assumptions.
  • Communicate design intent clearly to internal teams, external partners, and clients.
  • Perform and review finite element analysis using SAP2000 and ABAQUS.
  • Shape local engineering practices, coordinate with UK and European Union partners, and support development of the UK engineering hub.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's or PhD focused on concrete, marine, or offshore structures.
  • Chartered Engineer status or progress toward chartership.
  • Experience with marine energy, offshore structures, or naval architecture.

Sperra designs and manufactures structural systems for offshore renewable energy projects using 3D concrete printing to create anchoring and foundation components for floating solar, offshore wind, and wave energy. On-site large-scale 3D printers lay and cure custom parts from local materials, cutting transport emissions and lowering costs. Germany Trade & Invest highlights PLEUGER's role in pioneering underwater energy storage. Engineering Expertise Behind the StEnSea Energy Storage Project PLEUGER's contribution to the innovative StEnSea (Stored Energy in the Sea) project has been highlighted by Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI), recognizing the collaboration between research and industry that is driving new approaches to renewable energy storage. Led by Fraunhofer IEE and supported by the project partners Sperra and PLEUGER, the StEnSea project explores an innovative approach to storing renewable energy using large concrete spheres installed on the seabed. During periods of excess renewable electricity, seawater is pumped out of the sphere and stored as potential energy. When electricity is needed, seawater flows back into the sphere through a pump-turbine system, generating power. The heart of the system At the core of the StEnSea concept is PLEUGER's expertise in submersible pump technology. "The pump is the heart of the StEnSea project," says Edris Faez, Head of Sales at PLEUGER. Operating reliably in seawater at depths of around 600 metres presents unique engineering challenges. Drawing on decades of experience in designing and manufacturing submersible pump systems for demanding applications, PLEUGER was selected as the project's pump partner to help develop a solution capable of performing in these extreme conditions. Innovation through collaboration StEnSea demonstrates what can be achieved when research institutions and industry combine their expertise. Together with Fraunhofer IEE and Sperra, PLEUGER is helping advance an innovative energy storage concept that could support the integration of renewable energy and contribute to a more sustainable energy future.
