  • At least one year of recent work or volunteer experience in Family Service Programs or German tourism.
  • Ability to provide orientation, information, and guidance about life in Germany to newcomers.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access, the internet, and email.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings for some language classes.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct weekly Host Nation Orientation briefings for newcomers and assist with setup, breakdown, registration, and preparation of the briefing room.
  • Conduct Host Nation Orientation briefings twice a week during June, July, and August, as agreed with the In-processing Transition Center.
  • Lead a walking tour through Wiesbaden explaining area information, cultural differences, and public transportation; when permitted, coordinate lunch at a local German restaurant to teach participants about restaurant culture, menu reading, ordering, and tipping.
  • Present three cultural adaptation walking tours per month focused on purchasing train and bus tickets, planning local day trips within a 50-kilometer radius, using German transportation and schedules, paying appropriate fees, visiting local restaurants, and accessing recreational and leisure centers. Each tour must last between two and eight hours.

Each course has eight sessions, with five courses scheduled per contract year; a summer course may have fewer sessions with the Relocation Program Manager’s agreement.
  • Provide beginner English-as-a-Second-Language classes in eight-week courses, meeting twice weekly for 1.5 hours per class, with three courses per contract year.
  • When not training, teaching, or providing tours, answer Host Nation questions by email or phone.
  • Provide unofficial German-to-English and English-to-German translations on topics such as rental housing information, newspaper advertisements, and transportation schedules, including contacting agencies by phone or email as needed.
