Requirements
  • A track record of shipping real products, ideally spanning both physical devices and the software that runs on and around them, from prototype to something people use.
  • Depth in one or more of embedded systems or firmware, sensors and signal acquisition, edge computing, or connected-device architecture.
  • Experience building in a regulated, high-trust domain such as health technology, medical devices, defence, or a comparable safety-critical field, with comfort with clinical safety, data protection, medical-device, and quality-management standards and evidence.
  • Pragmatism at the earliest stage, including making build-versus-buy decisions, shipping, and working with ambiguity and imperfect information.
  • Founder-oriented ownership, equity, carrying the technical story with clinical users and investors, hiring, and raising the technical bar.
  • A personal reason to care about the problem based on something seen, built, or experienced.
  • Willingness and ability to undergo United Kingdom government security vetting if not already held.
Responsibilities
  • Work with integrated sensing and edge computing, and build data-synchronization layers to complete an operating system.
  • Build resilient systems for environments with intermittent connectivity and power constraints.
  • Ensure alignment with medical-device regulations, data-protection standards, and quality-management frameworks.
  • Deliver functional prototypes for clinical pilots and investor demonstrations.
  • Work hand in hand with the founder and chief executive officer on product direction, pilot deployments, and technical documentation for future funding rounds.
  • Define the initial technology stack and build the core engineering team.
  • Recruit and manage the initial engineering team as the company scales.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of artificial intelligence and machine learning for on-device inference or sensor fusion.
  • Experience as a founding engineer or early employee at a technology startup.
  • Exposure to clinical, pre-hospital, emergency, humanitarian, or field-operations environments.
  • Familiarity with the realities of getting hardware manufactured and certified.
  • Pre-existing security clearance with UK Security Vetting.

Telgea raises funding from Founders Factory and Vodafone to automate 90% of telecom operations with AI

Telgea, an AI-native global telecom platform, has secured funding led by Founders Factory in partnership with Vodafone + Fastweb, signalling a broader shift in enterprise telecommunications from infrastructure to software. The company addresses a longstanding problem: multinational firms managing multiple telecom relationships across countries. Operating as a digital-first MVNO, Telgea automates approximately 90% of traditional telecom operations through an AI-native platform, partnering with local operators whilst centralising provisioning, billing and support. The investment reflects changing priorities in enterprise connectivity. Companies including SureSIM, Ubigi for Business and 1GLOBAL are similarly transforming mobile connectivity into programmable, software-defined services that integrate with enterprise systems. Telgea recently won Best B2B Mobile Operator at the MVNO Nation Global Awards 2025. The market remains competitive, with success dependent on eliminating operational complexity whilst maintaining coverage quality and compliance.

Coinbase-backed UK accelerator selects 8 startups from 800 applicants, offers $317,500 funding

Coinbase and its partners have selected eight startups from over 800 applicants for the first cohort of R sidency, a UK-based Web3 and AI accelerator launched in April 2025. Each company received $300,000 in cash and up to £250,000 in funding, alongside mentoring and support. The programme, backed by Coinbase, Fabric Ventures, Animoca Brands and Founders Factory, focuses on infrastructure and practical applications rather than speculation. Selected startups include Auto, building an AI wallet; Kash, developing a prediction market protocol; and Unified, creating infrastructure for using crypto assets as collateral in traditional markets. The cohort spans fintech, legal software and consumer tools, reflecting a shift towards products appealing to both crypto-native users and mainstream finance as venture funding becomes more selective.
