- Hold a Master’s license appropriate for the vessel.
- Have knowledge of inland navigation.
- Have training in first aid, firefighting, and maritime safety.
- Have the ability to communicate with the public.
- Command the vessel throughout each operation.
- Ensure compliance with maritime legislation and the instructions of the Maritime Authority.
- Perform safety checks before service begins and confirm the vessel's operational status daily.
- Ensure navigation and safety equipment are used correctly.
- Decide whether to suspend operations when weather or navigability conditions are adverse.
- Follow scheduled service times and maintain regular crossings.
- Coordinate safe embarkation and disembarkation, ensure passenger capacity is not exceeded, and authorize departure only when all safety conditions are met.
- After specific training, operate Andante validation equipment, assist passengers with validators, sell transport tickets, and report ticketing equipment faults.
- Provide service information to passengers and assist passengers with reduced mobility, older passengers, and families.
- Ensure passengers comply with vessel-use rules.
- Coordinate the sailor's work and ensure internal procedures are followed.
- Prepare or validate required operational records.
- Maintain high standards of safety, professionalism, and courtesy; wear the uniform and personal protective equipment correctly.
- Follow operating schedules and procedures, maintain the confidentiality of operational information, and promptly report incidents, accidents, or situations that may compromise operational safety.
- Contribute suggestions for continuous service improvement, operational efficiency, and passenger satisfaction.
- Represent Douro Azul and the river-crossing service professionally, providing a safe, efficient, and welcoming transport experience.
