Requirements
  • Current licensure as required by the state board where services are provided; for West Virginia, a Magnetic Resonance Imaging license or Magnetic Resonance Imaging Apprentice license is required.
  • Registration through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in radiography, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, or magnetic resonance imaging; if magnetic resonance imaging certification is not held upon hire, it must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging certification through the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists is due upon hire as an alternative certification pathway.
  • Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • A state criminal background check and federal background check, if applicable, are required for regulated areas.
  • Knowledge of magnetic resonance imaging procedures and safety issues, organization, communication, computer use, and multitasking.
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations at any given time.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, and carry items up to 20 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and explain examinations to patients.
  • Perform all examinations pertaining to the specialty areas.
  • Maintain current knowledge of procedures in specialty areas to perform assigned duties.
  • Maintain magnetic field safety requirements as required by the manufacturer.
  • Assist the physician during specialty examinations.
  • Process examinations and make them available on the picture archiving and communication system.
  • Demonstrate appropriate safety practices for patients, families, and oneself.
  • Delegate and evaluate care delivered by peers, other healthcare team members, and ancillary staff.
  • Participate in self-evaluation and develop a professional development plan based on personal, unit, and strategic goals.
  • Complete all patient-related paperwork after examinations.
  • Participate in educating and overseeing orientees, ancillary staff, and students in collaboration with the preceptor, manager, or designated education coordinator.
  • Participate on selected committees to exchange information and contribute to problem-solving methods.
  • Develop knowledge and skills by attending formal and informal educational activities.
  • Assist in identifying problems for investigation, collecting data for research projects, and applying current concepts to patient care.
  • Complete annual education related to specialty accreditation requirements when applicable.
  • Provide quality customer service consistent with Service Excellence Standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Magnetic resonance imaging certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists upon hire.
  • Radiography certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
