Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assisting or medical assistant program is required.
  • For CMA II, six months of Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant experience is required.
  • Certification through an accepted organization as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, or equivalent credential is required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • Ability to perform the stated physical duties, including standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, reaching, repetitive hand and arm motions, respirator use, and lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain corrected 20/40 vision, work in a latex-safe indoor environment, and work occasionally in dusty or confined spaces.
Responsibilities
  • Calibrate, clean, and perform scheduled maintenance of clinical and laboratory equipment in accordance with applicable requirements, and document the work.
  • Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information; document test and examination results.
  • Communicate the plan of care to patients and develop patient education materials as necessary.
  • Maintain examination-room supplies, instruments, and cleanliness of the patient-care environment.
  • Maintain timely patient flow and assist with scheduling appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability.
  • Screen patients for appropriate information and provide patient education related to diagnosis and treatment.
  • Observe, record, and report patients’ physical and psychosocial conditions and their reactions to medications and treatments to the physician.
  • Respond to and triage telephone calls, and call in physician-authorized orders appropriately.
  • Instruct patients, as ordered by the physician, regarding treatment and medication.
  • Monitor and distribute medications, including samples and controlled substances.
  • Triage patients and prepare them for physician examinations and procedures.
  • Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments as necessary.
  • Instruct patients in the collection of samples and performance of tests.
  • Administer prescribed treatments and tests as ordered by the physician.
  • Room patients, take vital signs and health histories, perform point-of-care testing, assist physicians with minor procedures, administer injections, and support front-desk patient check-in and check-out as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of patient care experience is preferred for CMA I.
