Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalency is required, along with a minimum of 5 years of business and commercial litigation legal assistant experience.
  • Typing speed of at least 70 words per minute and demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and perform duties in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills for interacting with employees and vendors.
  • Ability to work with all levels of staff in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, electronic document management software, and electronic filing in state and federal courts.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work and time.
  • Professional customer-service approach when dealing with internal and external individuals.
  • Excellent proofreading skills and flexibility.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, take direction, prioritize assignments, and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to pass a background check as a condition of employment.
  • Authorization to work in the United States, verified through Form I-9 and E-Verify.
Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to attorneys and backup support to legal assistants for assigned practice-group needs.
  • Transcribe and type correspondence; produce letters, court documents including pleadings, discovery requests and responses, notices, and subpoenas; prepare legal and internal administrative forms; and schedule depositions and court appearances.
  • Process incoming, outgoing, and internal mail for assignments.
  • Maintain orderly filing of correspondence and documents in iManage for assigned matters.
  • Assist attorneys with client billing.
  • Maintain professional schedules and calendars, court dates, and deadlines for assigned attorneys.
  • Manage communications with clients and professional associates on behalf of assigned attorneys as directed.
  • Schedule meetings through Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and conference rooms.
  • Prepare and submit attorney expense reports through ChromeRiver.
  • Complete and process miscellaneous disbursement charge records related to client billing according to established procedures.
  • Complete and process forms for opening new matters and closing files according to established procedures.
  • Assist with legal-assistant overflow work within the practice group or other practice groups when requested and available.
  • Perform additional legal-assistant duties related to attorneys’ firm administrative duties, committees, and community or professional associations and organizations.
  • Arrange required travel for assigned attorneys.

  • Notary Public experience or certification.

Asmus has joined the firm's Toledo office as Of Counsel in the Products & Transportation Group. Asmus focuses her practice on liability defense in Ohio and Michigan. Her practice includes the defense of commercial disputes, general liability, product liability, professional liability, workplace injury claims, employment discrimination matters and unfair labor practice claims. Asmus also counsels businesses on employment practices and policies, employee investigations and claims from the administrative stage through the court of appeals. In addition, Asmus advises municipal clients on public records requests, municipal appeals, employment contracts and commercial disputes. She also provides coverage opinions to insurers and defends bad faith, policy dispute, general liability, and third-party no-fault claims. Roetzel & Andress welcomes Luis Cortinas to Fort Myers office. Roetzel & Andress is pleased to welcome Luis Cortinas as Of Counsel in the firm's Business Litigation Group. He is based in the firm's Fort Myers office. Cortinas focuses his practice on construction and commercial civil litigation. He represents owners, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers in resolving construction disputes through mediation, arbitration and litigation. He has represented clients in matters involving a wide range of issues, including specification and plan interpretation, claims for extra work, wrongful termination, defective work, failure to prosecute work, nonpayment, lien disputes, and professional negligence. Cortinas also has experience with matters related to mixed-use high-rise building construction, courthouse construction, luxury RV resort construction and operation, and hotel construction. Prior to joining Roetzel, Cortinas spent more than nine years with a large commercial construction company, where he served in the company's in-house litigation department, representing its various divisions nationwide in mediation, arbitration and litigation. Cortinas earned his J.D. from Ave Maria School of Law and holds both an M.S. and a B.A. from Florida Gulf Coast University. He also served as a paratrooper in the United States Army.
