About the Job

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in Geology is required.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience with geosteering, wellsite, and traditional operations geology functions, or a Master of Science and 2 years of relevant experience, is required.
  • Working knowledge of wellbore stability model foundations and utility is required.
  • An established track record of successfully working in a multidisciplinary team is required.

Responsibilities

  • Use log data, learnings from offset horizontal wells, and wellbore stability models to recommend casing points and well placement that improve rate of penetration, reduce non-productive time and hole-problem risk, and reduce the need to trip out of hole.
  • Collaborate with drilling engineers to determine optimal casing design for assigned wells.
  • Collaborate with business unit Development Geologists to ensure target windows exclude drilling hazards and recommend adjustments when necessary.
  • Construct maps, cross sections, and other displays using standard wireline logs, 3D seismic, well cuttings, mudlogs, and drilling data to communicate recommendations and geoscience principles to non-geoscientists.
  • Provide and deploy vertical and horizontal wellbore stability models for assigned wells.
  • Generate and revise wellbore stability models as required, incorporating offset drilling, pressure data, the best estimate of the local collapse gradient, pore pressure gradient, and fracture gradient from the vertical section through the horizontal target window.
  • Construct documents for and participate in pre-spud meetings for assigned wells.
  • Facilitate collaboration and information sharing between Operations Geology and business unit Development Geologists.
  • Act as a longer-lead point of contact for assigned areas in line with the business unit team structure.
  • Provide geologic context and recommendation slides in After Action Reviews as needed.
  • Leverage existing workflows and create new workflows and dashboards that incorporate available subsurface and drilling data to maximize drilling efficiency.
  • Develop methods for integrating wellbore stability modeling products to support execution planning and real-time decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the drilling data science team to identify potential improvement opportunities in modeling and data pipelines.

Desired Qualifications

  • A Master of Science in Geology is preferred.
  • Remote operations center experience is preferred.
