Requirements
  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent working knowledge is required.
  • Knowledge normally obtained through graduation from an accredited medical assisting program is required.
  • Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations is required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification or Medical Assistant Registration is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification is required, with competent adult, child, and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation performance demonstrated every other year through a nationally recognized, standardized, credentialed healthcare provider course.
  • One year of medical clerical experience, preferably in a hospital or physician office setting, or prior customer service experience is required.
  • Medical terminology knowledge, computer literacy, keyboarding skills, organizational skills, and effective human relations and communication skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for examinations and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms, other measurements, chief complaints, and pain scores as appropriate; report conditions that may indicate a change in patient status to the clinician.
  • Assist providers with examinations and minor in-office procedures, including measuring blood pressure, respiration, heart rate and pulse, taking temperature, performing ear irrigation and electrocardiograms, and acting as a chaperone as needed; use universal blood and body fluid precautions and personal protective equipment; prioritize patient flow through the clinical process.
  • Coordinate and manage patient care, including pre-certifications, authorizations, prescriptions, and patient scheduling; communicate test results to patients; serve as a clinical resource to providers; and administer medications in accordance with established policies and procedures or as directed.
  • Provide clerical support for patient notifications and documentation, including medical records, labs, authorizations, X-rays, hospital records, and prior care pertaining to each visit; provide complete and accurate information for timely billing of patient encounters.
  • Maintain a clean and functional environment by cleaning and disinfecting equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas; disinfect equipment and instruments using appropriate solutions and sterilization procedures; follow manufacturer recommendations and Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines for hazardous substances; perform basic equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs.
  • Order supplies, stock patient care areas, and monitor inventory, including medications, injectables, immunizations, expired items, and recalls.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external customers and demonstrate service-oriented behavior in all interactions.
  • Complete required onboarding and orientation activities, including simulation training, as needed or directed.
  • Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards; provide customers with a high-quality service experience by consistently demonstrating organizational core and leader behaviors.
Desired Qualifications
  • Recent healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience is preferred.
