  • A high school diploma is required.
  • One year of experience working with the senior population is required.
  • Must successfully pass the Serving Safe Food test after hire.
  • Must complete Food Safety, Accident Prevention, Customer Service, Ethics and Boundaries/Confidentiality, Nutrition Standards/Portion Control, First Aid Choking, Emergency Preparedness/Severe Weather, and Red Flags tests within a three-year period.
  • Must complete annual Fire Safety training.
  • Ability to work well with elderly people.
  • Good organizational skills.

  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be available to work at very short notice.
  • Ability to assist the delivery person in receiving food on a periodic basis.
Responsibilities
  • Take food temperatures, hold food at correct temperatures, date food, and record temperatures when food arrives, meals are delivered, and food is served.
  • Review route sheets, label food for volunteers, note cancelled meals, maintain meal temperatures, collate meals by route, heat hot packs, package meals in thermal bags, review routes and customer concerns with volunteers, and sanitize coolers and thermal bags.
  • Wash, sanitize, and set tables with placemats, plasticware, napkins, and condiments.
  • Make and serve coffee, check food temperatures, serve milk, plate food according to serving size, prepare frozen trays with extra food, and date food.
  • Place bulk serving containers and extra temperature-holding tools in coffins, prepare coffins for pickup, wash tables, sweep floors, store condiments, remove garbage, sanitize serving spoons, and clean the coffee maker.
  • Wash and disinfect or sanitize work areas, tables, and counters.
  • Collect sign-in sheets, count donations, complete deposit summaries and meal rosters, collect route sheets, confirm deliveries, check meal-order quantities, monitor phone messages, answer the phone, update meal rosters and route sheets, and coordinate volunteer schedules.
  • Record meal reservations and identify congregate dining or carryout meals for the Meal Program Coordinator.
  • Ensure a volunteer is scheduled, call replacement volunteers when needed, and review daily route information with volunteers.
  • Direct and supervise volunteers who set up service, serve meals, and clean up; oversee completion of duties and record volunteer hours.
