  • The Senior has a proven full-time career history in data, with deep fluency in both Python and SQL. They have owned a significant data or distributed system in production, used by multiple teams.
  • Hands-on experience building and running data pipeline frameworks for large, complex datasets.
  • Ability to understand the business context behind migrations, platform changes, and architectural decisions; cares about impact, faster teams, cost reduction, reliability.
  • Solid understanding of data security and compliance best practices and approach to data privacy.
  • Ability to thrive in environments with slow processes, unclear ownership, and repeated manual work; capable of turning vague problems into clear plans (ambiguous environments).

Responsibilities
  • Lead the architectural design and implementation of the next generation of Intercom's data stack, partnering with product and business teams.
  • Define interfaces, semantics, and data access patterns powering AI-assisted insights tools, operational workflows, and internal data apps in Streamlit, React, and Python.
  • Operate and improve core data systems, including pipelines, orchestration, and data warehouse, ensuring reliability for AI, Product, Finance, GTM, Analytics Engineering, and other teams, while enhancing performance, cost-efficiency, and resilience.
  • Enablement Through Tooling: collaborate with Analytics Engineers, Analysts, and Data Scientists to build self-service tooling, patterns, guardrails, and diagnostics that reduce friction and prevent bottlenecks in Data Infrastructure.
  • Implement advanced monitoring to surface and resolve data quality issues across a high-throughput environment.
  • Develop automation and tooling to streamline creation and discovery of high-quality analytics data across the data lifecycle.
  • Lead Platform & Warehousing Strategy: oversee architectural and cost reviews to scale data infrastructure for future growth and advanced use cases.
  • Architect the semantic layer and large language model integration pipelines for Natural Language Querying over the data warehouse to democratize data access.
  • Foster a Community of Practice and mentorship by setting best practices and guiding peers; coach on complex pipeline development; raise engineering standards.
  • Contribute to and build on recent wins such as Airflow and DBT based environments, Snowflake, DBT, and data catalog initiatives.

Intercom secures $250M in venture debt to expand AI agent Fin and hire 650 people

Intercom has secured $250 million in venture debt from Hercules Capital to fund its AI expansion. CEO Eoghan McCabe said the funds will develop the company's Fin AI agent and support hiring of 650 additional employees. The customer service company plans to invest the capital in further developing Fin, Intercom's artificial intelligence platform.
