Requirements

  • A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and at least 8 years of relevant experience are typically required, unless prohibited by local laws or regulations.
  • Experience in at least two of the following areas is required: printed circuit board manufacturing, circuit card assembly, or understanding of IPC and MIL specifications and design guides.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance is required; U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert in manufacturability for programs, focusing on the printed circuit board and circuit card assembly product lifecycle.
  • Use knowledge of printed circuit board or circuit card assembly manufacturing to advise design teams on bill of material component selection, termination finishes, placement, bonding or coating material selection and application, rework methods, industry best practices, IPC specifications, and drawing notes.
  • Host and facilitate design reviews and collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams taking printed circuit board and circuit card assembly designs from inception to manufacturing.
  • Provide supplier support, including onsite travel; enable communication between RTX stakeholders and suppliers; disposition supplier requests and manufacturing defects; review supplier data and lessons learned; and help establish circuit card assembly testing at a supplier.
  • Mentor teammates on circuit card assembly manufacturing and IPC specifications.
  • Drive design, procurement, and build schedules to meet program need dates.
  • Generate drawing notes and review technical data packages to ensure adherence to IPC specifications.
  • Perform design-for-manufacturability analyses.
  • Develop and manage bills of material to support optimal circuit card assembly manufacturing and rework.
  • Lead and facilitate team meetings, track actions and status, and support communication among design engineers, supply chain teams, third-party suppliers, and program leadership.
  • Serve as liaison between RTX design teams and external printed circuit board and circuit card assembly suppliers, addressing technical issues and applying supplier feedback and lessons learned to redesigns and continuous improvement.

Desired Qualifications

  • Detailed circuit card assembly process knowledge and the ability to influence component placement, component selection, and material selection to improve circuit card assembly manufacturability.
  • Experience achieving alignment and collaboration among disciplines in the RTX design community to meet organizational and program objectives.
  • Experience with project coordination and task management, including planning projects and engaging related functions in a timely manner to balance risk and rigor throughout development.
