Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a Senior Structural Bridge Engineer ready to join our growing Canadian Operations within our Engineering Design Organization supporting Transportation projects. The role can be based in any of our offices in Mississauga, Toronto, Markham or Whitby.
The Bridge Group within GHD Canada works with Provincial, Regional, and local municipal agencies, as well as select contracting partners, on large-scale projects across the whole Transportation spectrum of highways, roads, and bridges. Our team provides full-service bridge engineering from project planning, conceptual design, lifecycle cost analysis, load evaluation, inspections, fatigue, preliminary design, detailed design, construction administration/inspection, and asset management support.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Engineering Solutions Design: Successful participation in, and completion of multi-disciplined transportation structure projects, rail bridges and structures, and complex design. Production of conceptual design, detailed design, technical specifications, cost, and schedule estimating
- Engineering Standards Specification: Working within various procurement models and roles.
- Knowledge Management: Develop policies and processes, create best practices, set up case studies, and deliver internal knowledge-sharing sessions to capture and share knowledge among colleagues on project/program outcomes and innovative practices in a particular area of expertise and to support the practice.
- Technical Developments Recommendation: Preparation of reports, and contract documents for review agencies, clients, and the public
- Professional Supervision: Providing technical leadership and mentorship to intermediate and junior staff
- Collaboration:
- Working closely with Business Group Leaders, Project Managers, and Project Directors with a focus on structural design for transit infrastructure.
- Collaborating with other engineering disciplines and design staff in the production of high-quality project deliverables
- Communicating with other discipline leads, designers, and project team members on a regular basis to ensure effective and timely flow of project information to meet scheduled deadlines. Ensuring that project design solutions are delivered to the highest standards and meet program and budgetary constraints
- Maintaining contact with sub-consultants, municipalities, utility companies and clients
- Feasibility Studies: Conduct complex feasibility studies from a technological and organizational perspective and document findings to complete cost-benefit analysis on implementing changes to business processes, products, or business unit structure.
- Project Management: Exposure to project planning, development, and monitoring of project schedules, and budgets
- Client & Customer Management (External): Maintaining contact with sub-consultants, municipalities, utility companies, and clients
- Needs Assessment: Uncover emerging issues or needs, identifying potential causes, barriers, and key stakeholders, as well as related issues.
- Improvement/Innovation: Identify shortcomings in existing business practices, then suggest and implement improvements while developing and delivering projects or a work stream within the organization's change management program. Involves working with guidance from senior colleagues.
What you’ll bring to the team:
- A Professional Engineering (P. Eng) license with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is required.
- 15+ years of experience in design and engineering of bridge projects.
- Experience and understanding of alternative delivery methodology.
- Metrolinx and AREMA experience
- CN Rail, CP Rail, and MTO experience are considered an asset
- Familiarity with the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC), Ontario design standards (i.e., OPSS), and client specific standards and requirements (i.e., MTO)
- Experience in managing/mentoring or leading a group is considered an asset
- Bilingualism in English and French or Spanish is considered an asset

- The salary range for this position is $105,210 - $151,210. The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications and work location.
