JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary\:
A Health Specialist is responsible to coordinate and/or provide necessary health related services to support the educational programming and physical needs of students assigned to the Intermediate Unit programs.
Essential Functions\:
Provide direct medical/health related services to students, in accord with District and Intermediate Unit policy, including, but not limited to the following\:
- catheterizing
- parental (intravenous insertion/re-insertion of tubing).
- administration of oxygen
- dispensing of medication, orally, rectally, per tube, intravenously, etc.
- ostomy care and irrigation
- respiratory assistance, including post drainage, suctions, tracheotomy tube care and cleaning
- cardio-pulmonary resuscitation
Provide support and training to students for all activities of daily living, including toileting, oral and dental hygiene.
Conduct medical screenings, including screenings for possible communicable diseases, coordinate follow-up as necessary.
Monitor incidence and prevalence of selected health problems, as necessary.
Provide first aide and coordinate the delivery of emergency services immediately, whenever necessary.
Maintain comprehensive health records for every student, as well as records of nursing services. This should include compiling charts, reviewing medical orders, updating care plans, checking immunizations, updating emergency contact information, and filing accident reports.
Coordinate health services to comply with state and local district requirements.
Communicate with families, service providers and medical personnel about the ongoing needs of individual students.
Provide staff training, as necessary.
Attend training sessions, in-service workshops, and update skills as necessary.
Provide advice and possible solutions to supervisor, principal, or other appropriate staff concerning health or safety hazards in the school environment.
Participate in meetings to develop and update the Health Care Plans, IEP as necessary.
Ensuring that proper first aide and health care supplies are in stock
Assist student with academics when nursing and health related occurrences are not needed.

The contractor may be required to stand for long periods, and to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The contractor must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work\:This is a four day per week position in the ESY Department stationed out of an ESY center-based location. The program is in operation from June 24, 2026, to July 30, 2026. Classes are in session from Monday through Thursday each week.
Travel\: This position has limited travel.
