- Wisconsin State-issued Certified Nursing Assistant certification, specifically Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification through the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry.
- Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
- Education equivalency for licensing.
- No experience is required.
- Ability to work constant standing and walking, frequent communication and hearing activities, frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing 0–25 pounds, frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry, and the stated occasional physical activities including patient lifting or moving.
- Receive patient care assignments from the registered nurse in charge and initiate delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence for the patient age group served.
- Collect and document admission-assessment and reassessment data, and provide appropriate data to the licensed nurse for analysis and validation of the patient’s response to care or treatment and significant changes in condition.
- Relay information through charting and communication with team members.
- Inform the licensed nurse of changes in patient condition or needs, patient complaints, and patient or significant-other educational needs.
- Answer patient calls for help; take vital signs; monitor behavior and physical condition; and assist with bathing, ambulation, feeding, skin care, personal and oral hygiene, bed making, dressing changes, enemas, ostomy care, toileting, turning, cough and deep breathing, catheter care, biological-specimen collection, and measuring and recording fluid intake and output.
- Prepare patients for discharge and accompany them upon dismissal as indicated.
- Stock and maintain supplies and equipment according to patient-care needs and cost-containment requirements.
- Assist with delegated clerical duties, including answering telephones, relaying messages, transcribing physician orders, and preparing and organizing patient medical records.
- Orient new patients and significant others to the nursing unit.
- Operate equipment mechanically and manually according to the user’s manual, recognize common mechanical problems, and initiate appropriate corrective action.
- Perform point-of-care testing according to policies and procedures when assigned.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
