About the job
- A J.D. from an accredited law school and admission in good standing to the Washington State bar, or eligibility for waiver admission.
- Three to five years of litigation experience at an AmLaw 200 firm, regional litigation boutique, or equivalent, including construction, design professional liability, surety, or related infrastructure disputes.
- Demonstrated experience managing discovery, taking and defending depositions, and drafting complex motions independently or with limited supervision.
- Exceptional written and oral advocacy skills, including the ability to translate complex technical and contractual issues into clear, persuasive legal arguments.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- The ability to supervise junior team members and work effectively with partners, clients, and co-counsel.
- A high degree of professional judgment, client-service orientation, and commitment to quality.
- Provide legal counsel in construction and design-related disputes within the Real Estate & Construction practice group.
- Manage discovery, take and defend depositions, and draft complex motions independently or with limited supervision.
- Supervise junior team members and collaborate with partners, clients, and co-counsel.
- Meet the position's 1,800 billable-hour expectation and applicable all-in hours expectation, including permitted pro bono and investment activities.
- Participate in investment activities such as business development, professional development, mentoring and coaching, recruiting, workplace-culture contributions, and civic and community activities.
- Prior trial, arbitration, or hearing experience.
- Familiarity with the construction industry.

SAN FRANCISCO (August 31, 2026) - Stoel Rives, an AmLaw 200 law firm, today announced the addition of business litigator and trial attorney David M. Friedman as a partner in the firm's litigation practice in its San Francisco office. Friedman brings more than two decades of experience handling complex, high-stakes business disputes and further strengthens the firm's litigation capabilities in California and across the West.
