Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Data Science, Biomedical Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a similar discipline is required.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience is required, including experience in technology-intensive environments and programming experience in SQL or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Programming experience, ideally in Java, Python, and/or R, is required.
  • Experience with laboratory data management systems such as biospecimen software, electronic laboratory notebooks, LabKey Server, or REDCap is required.
  • Experience with Linux environments, Docker, and cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform is required.
  • Familiarity with data analytics and statistical methods is required.
  • Expertise in software engineering best practices such as version control and software release management is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Strong organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to work with others in a matrix management environment is required.
  • Excellent communication skills for describing progress and challenges to stakeholders are required.

Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of analytical and data science-based software and data pipelines that enable scientific workflows.
  • Provide focused support in enhancing data collection frameworks that integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple sources and systems for specific research study teams.
  • Maintain and support the development of infrastructure systems, including data warehouses, data lakes, and data access application programming interfaces.
  • Support a team that provides robust, scalable software solutions to the research enterprise.
  • Maintain and modify Extract, Transform, and Load data pipelines and overall data architecture to accommodate increasing data volumes from varied large research data sources.
  • Work with team members to convert business and technical requirements into professional software solutions while completing tasks on time and managing multiple assignments, project timelines, and business user expectations.
  • Support the implementation of custom, research project-specific data workflow solutions for data collection, management, reporting, and analytics, and contribute to scientific research.
  • Follow application development life-cycle practices, including requirements gathering, writing test plans, source code management, peer code review, and quality assurance through unit, system, and user acceptance testing.
  • Participate in specifying, implementing, and executing testing procedures to ensure the quality of deliverables and the reliability of systems and data workflows.
  • Produce and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for systems under the engineer's responsibilities.
  • Keep current with application developments through continuing education, professional reading, online forums, conferences, workshops, and professional groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with genomics, metagenomics, flow cytometry or imaging files, metadata, and data standards is preferred.
